FlexColor Software—Bundled with the Flextight 343 & 646
Imacon’s unique 3f (flexible file format) stores not only your original 16-bit image - exactly
as captured - but also a complete history of your processing settings, thereb enabling you
to produce many different output-optimized images from a single file. The 3f format pro-
vides the perfect source for use in today’s digital workflow, where the original data is main-
tained for as long as possible in the production process.
When archiving images, photographers usually save their original negatives rather than
the prints made from them. Digital images should be treated in the same way. Because a 3f
image preserves all of the details captured by your scanner or digital camera, it is perfect
for archiving. Then, for each new type of job, you will work with the 3f image in FlexColor
and export it to create a new TIFF file in which your settings are applied - the only change
made to the 3f file will be the addition of a new history record of the settings you used.
No matter how carefully you handle your originals, you will still occasionally see dust and
small scratches in your scans. You must therefore scroll around your high resolution files
at 100% zoom to make sure that the images are clean. Sometimes they are fine, but often you must retouch a little bit here and there. It is
usually not difficult, but it can be very time consuming to scroll around at 100% and retouch using the Photoshop cloning tool. By using
Imacon’s optional FlexTouch new dust & scratch removal tool, you can remove small dust and scratches with the simple click of a button,
thereby saving you all that scrolling and cloning.
