Box 1: Permanent Storage of BUOY_METSTAT in Program Location 7 & 8 of the SM4M
It is advised to leave an uncorrupted version of BUOY_METSTAT1 in program location 7 and BUOY_METSTAT2
in program location 8 of the SM4M storage module at all times. As discussed later in the “trouble shooting’
chapter, a wide range of possible operation problems can be solved by reloading BUOY_METSTAT into the
datalogger.
Note: BUOY_METSTAT1 is a datalogger program with datalogger identification No. 1 for Kalabshah Khor while
BUOY_METSTAT2 is the datalogger program with datalogger identification No. 2 for Toshka Khor. The basic program
for the both dataloggers is the same with the only difference that different datalogger identification numbers are
embedded in the program. This ID serves to separate data from different sources. This is needed when a single
storage module is used for transferring measurements from several stations to one office PC.
Upon toggling the Power Supply switch on the CH12R charger to “ON”, the program stored in location 8 of the
SM4M storage module (in this case BUOY_METSTAT) is automatically loaded into the CR10X, and subsequently made
the active program. However, this should be avoided as there are two programs stored in SM4M. It is advised that
the datalogger should be programmed manually as shown in Box 2 below.
Make sure that the installation of all hardware components is completed before powering on the datalogger.
Box 2: Loading BUOY_METSTAT into CR10X Storage and Control Module
(it is assumed that BUOY_METSTAT1 is stored in program location 7 (for Kalabshah) and BUOY_METSTAT2
in location 8 (for Toshka) of the SM4M)
Manually Programming the Datalogger Using the CR10KD Keyboard Display
Connect the CR10KD and SM4M to the CR10X and type in the following keyboard instructions (for presenta-
tion purposes given between double quotes):
For Kalabshah:
“*D” (to activate Star D Mode; the display shows 13:00)
“71” (code for SM4M)
A (keyboard equivalent for ENTER; the display shows 71:00)
“27” (“2” stands for loading a program, “7” stands for program location 7)
A (keyboard equivalent to ENTER; BUOY_METSTAT is now loaded and activated)
For Toshka:
“*D” (to activate Star D Mode; the display shows 13:00)
BUOY_METSTAT is a datalogger program specifically created by the Project for the selected sensor configuration,
and adapted to the required measurement schedule in Lake Nasser. It is written in the proprietary Campbell
Scientific programming language using Shortcut for Windows (SCWIN).
To set the CR10X system clock, type in the following keyboard commands (given between double quotes for
presentation purposes):
“*5” (to activate Star Five Mode; the display shows the current time in HH:MM:SS)
A (keyboard equivalent to ENTER)
“YYYY” (enter Year)
A (keyboard equivalent to ENTER)
