Dear Friends:
IT WAS 1953 WHEN MY WIFE AND I LEFT NORTH DAKOTA TO PURSUE
THE OPPORTUNITIES OF A LIFE IN THE WEST. WE FIRST SETTLED IN
OLYMPIA WASHINGTON. OLYMPIA IS WHERE WE HAD OUR FIRST
EXPOSURE TO ELECTRIC HEATING, AND
we were excited about the
comfort and affordability provided by zonal heating.
We opened a small sales operation in August of 1955. Although the store was very successful, we sold it in February
of 1956. We saw the potential of the larger market for electric heat in Portland Oregon, and moved there that same
year. It was there that Cadet Manufacturing Company was born in October of 1957. In 1972, Highway 205 acquired the
Portland plant, so we purchased Swan Manufacturing Co. an
d their facilities in nearby Vancouver Washington, where
Cadet remains located today.
During the years 1930 through 1945 the U.S. market only included five electric heat manufacturers. By 1970, this
number had grown to over 30 manufacturers. Today, the industry has consolidated to only four leading manufacturers
in the U.S.
As I mentioned previously, my wife and I left North Dakota looking for new chall
enges a
nd opportunities. We certainly
found them! Cadet has experienced many highs and lows over the past half century. However, we feel very fortunate
to be a part of the electrical and building trade. We are grateful for the support we have experienced from the very beginning.
We have enjoyed a successful and satisfying partnership with the electrical contractors and distributors from day one.
Many bu
ilders have used our product since the early 60’s, and continue to use them today. To those builders, as well
as the customers new to Cadet, we extend a big “Thank you!”
We are also appreciative of our employees of today and all of the yesterdays for their exceptional service and
commitment to excellence. Some of these employees came to Cadet in their early 20’s, ultimately retiring from Cadet
in the
ir 60’s. It is the Cadet employee, along with the Cadet customer base, that has kept this company moving
forward all these years.
Our management team is young and visionary and enthusiastic about Cadet’s opportunities for the future. Our g
oals
are to continue to bring you innovative zonal comfort products. We continually look for ways to enhance our current
products to deliver better comfort, value
, and the highest quality solutions that save our industry partners time and money.
All of us at Cadet are committed to dependable and safe products. We are proud to be the industry leader in
customer service and field support. We’ve had great enjoyment over the past 50 years, and look forward to a bright
future for decades to come.
Sincerely,
Richard Anderson, Owner
Cadet Manufacturing Co.
