This command writes the desired head and cylinder of the selected drive with a vendor unique
pattern. To remain host backward compatible, the drive expects a sector buer of data from the
host to follow the command with the same protocol as the Write Sector(s) command although the
information in the buer is not used by the drive. If LBA=1 then the number of sectors to format is
taken from the Sec Cnt register (0=256).

The Identify Drive command in Table 5-15 enables the host to receive parameter information from
the drive. This command has the same protocol as the Read Sector(s) command. The parameter
words in the buer have the arrangement and meanings dened in Table 5-16. All reserved bits or
words are zero. Table 5-16 is the denition for each eld in the Identify Drive Information.
