Chapter 11
Fast Ethernet Application
The Fast Ethernet application allows you to configure Fast Ethernet ports for high performance
Fast Ethernet switching modules. This chapter describes the views and subviews available for the
Fast Ethernet Application.
You can use the Fast Ethernet application to determine if the Ethernet uplink
between the device and a given port is 10Base or 100Base. You can then use
the application to configure the interface for auto-negotiation by default, or
manually set its operational mode to a particular 10Base or 100Base setting.
A port set to the value of Auto-Negotiation forces the operational mode to be
set automatically depending on the speeds and modes supported by the
attached device. Any other setting with Auto-Negotiation included, results in
an error, since an operational mode and auto-negotiation cannot be forced at
the same time. During link re-negotiation, a temporary link loss exists.
Manually set operational modes stay in effect until device reset or powerdown.
At that time the mode reverts to its default.
Fast Ethernet Application Views
The Fast Ethernet application provides one device-specific view: the Fast
Ethernet Port Table view. To access this view, click Control Table in the Icon
Subviews menu. The Fast Ethernet Port Table provides a list of definitions
and control objects over the 100Base-X ports. The model type name for the
application is FastEnetApp.
Figure 11-1 shows the Fast Ethernet Port Table view.
