Configuration Files
This section provides an overview of the network configuration files. It ex-
plains their purpose as well as the format used.
/etc/rc.config
The majority of the network configuration takes place in this central
configuration file. When making changes via YaST or when running
SuSEconfig after the file has been modified manually, most of the fol-
lowing files are automatically generated from these entries. Even the
boot scripts are configured via these file entries.
Tip
If you modify this file by hand, run SuSEconfig separately after-
wards so the modified configurations are entered into the correct
files.
Tip
/etc/hosts
In this file (see File 1 on the next page), IP addresses are assigned to
host names. If no name server is implemented, all hosts to which an
IP connection will be made must be listed here. For each host, a line
