The SmartSwitch 9000 utilizes a packet- and cell-
switching backplane to transfer information
throughout your network. Figure 2 shows a
representation of the relationship between the
front panel interfaces and the backplane for each
module installed in the SmartSwitch 9000
chassis.
The components that make up the backplane are:
• The Flexible Network Bus (FNB) consisting of
two dual FDDI networks; the FNB1 and the
FNB2
• The Internal Network Bus (INB) which is
divided into two channels; INB1 and INB2
