RFI COLD AIR INTAKE Parts Description RFI Lid The easy-to-remove lid replaces the stock lid and allows for hassle-free filter maintenance. When the lid is installed, the latch mounts should line up with the latches on the base. This will ensure that the lid creates a good seal with the enclosure base and that the latches close securely.
RFI COLD AIR INTAKE RFI MAF Tube The RFI MAF tube comes with a precisely manufactured mount for the mass airflow (MAF) sensor. The mount has inset screw mounts that are designed to work with the black oxide screws provided by Bully Dog. The tube is also designed with a snap-fit feature that will secure it tightly to the RFI lid.
RFI COLD AIR INTAKE Air Filter with Band Clamp The Rapid Flow Induction Cold Air Intake system includes an ISO 5011 certified eight-layer oil filter. The air filter is housed within the intake enclosure and secured onto the end of the air intake tube using the included filter clamp and a flat-head screwdriver. Hose and Band Clamps Adjustable clamps connect and hold all tubing in place. Barb Connectors Connect the 16 mm silicon hoses to your CCV tubes.
RFI COLD AIR INTAKE Installation Installation is very simple, and can be separated into three parts: Removing the Stock Intake, Preparing the RFI Intake and Installing the RFI Intake. The complete installation of the RFI Cold Air Intake system should take about 20 minutes. The assembly diagram shows how the parts of the intake fit together in sequence. Removing the Stock Intake OEM Intake Lid Mass Air Flow Sensor (2) CCV Tubes (9) Engine Cover (8) Band Clamp (4) Intake Tube (10) 1.
RFI COLD AIR INTAKE 2. Unplug the mass airflow (MAF) sensor. 3. Pop the MAF sensor support clip off the stock intake lid. (Use a flat-head screwdriver.) 4. Loosen the band clamp on the stock intake tube. (Use a flat-head screwdriver.) 5. Disconnect the stock intake tube from the filter box.
RFI COLD AIR INTAKE 6. Remove bolt A and set it aside. (Use a 10 mm socket.) 7. Take the stock intake box out of the engine bay and set it aside. 8. Remove the engine cover. a. Use a 10 mm socket to remove the bolts b. Pop the cover off the rear grommets (there are two of them). c. Set the cover and the bolts aside.
RFI COLD AIR INTAKE 9. Disconnect the CCV tubes. • Move the spring clamps. (Use pliers.) • Pull the tubes away from the resonator box. 10. Loosen the band clamps (use a flat-head screwdriver) and remove the stock intake tube.
RFI COLD AIR INTAKE Preparing the RFI Intake 1. Snap the MAF tube into the RFI enclosure base. • Rotate the MAF sensor mount to a 45° angle. 2. Remove the MAF sensor from the stock intake box. (Use a Phillips screwdriver.) 3. Remove the foam pad and rubber grommets from the stock intake.
RFI COLD AIR INTAKE 4. Attach the foam pad and rubber grommets to the RFI enclosure base. a. Pop the small rubber grommet onto the plastic arm. b. Slide the metal tube up from underneath. 5. Attach the MAF sensor to the RFI MAF tube. • Use the black oxide screws provided by Bully Dog and a Phillips screwdriver. • IMPORTANT: Do not overtighten the screws, as this could damage the MAF sensor.
RFI COLD AIR INTAKE 6. Connect the silicone couplers to the Stage 2 RFI tube. • Do not tighten the band clamps. Leave them loose so you can adjust the couplers into the correct position during installation. 7. Prepare the 16 mm silicon hoses. • Insert a barb connector into each hose. • Put the band clamps on. Leave them loose. (Hint: It is easier to tighten the clamps later if the screws are facing the same direction.) Installing the RFI Intake 1.
RFI COLD AIR INTAKE 2. Secure the RFI enclosure base into the engine bay with stock bolt A (step 6, page 7) and a 10 mm socket. 3. Connect the Stage 2 RFI tube to the RFI MAF tube and throttle body with the couplers. • Leave the band clamps loose. 4. Install the 16 mm hoses. a. Insert a barb connector into each CCV tube. b. Slide the other end of each 16 mm tube over one of the nozzles on the Stage 2 RFI tube. c. Move the spring clamps back into place. (Use pliers.
RFI COLD AIR INTAKE 5. Reinstall the engine cover. a. Pop the cover onto the rear grommets. b. Tighten the bolts back into place. (Use a 10 mm socket.) 6. Install the air filter. a. Slide it over the end of the MAF tube that is inside the RFI enclosure base. b. Tighten the band clamp. (Use a flat-head screwdriver.) 7. Install the RFI lid. a. Make sure the lid is properly aligned. b. Snap the latches over the mounts on the lid.
RFI COLD AIR INTAKE 8. Reconnect the MAF sensor plug and the battery. Start the vehicle, listen for leaks and check all connections. Go for a ride and enjoy! Be sure to check out the information about filter maintenance and the protective prefilter described in the next section.
RFI COLD AIR INTAKE Filter Maintenance The intake system should be cleaned with the Bully Dog RFI Cleaning Kit at least once every three months; in dusty climates, the filter should be cleaned more often. Cleaning the intake is a two part process: cleaning and oiling the filter. (1) Cleaning the Filter 1. Remove the filter from the RFI enclosure. Clean the enclosure if necessary. Part# 229000 2. Remove surface dirt (this step can be avoided if a Bully Dog RFI Prefilter has been installed).
RFI COLD AIR INTAKE 2. Continue applying the oil to the filter until the entire filter is covered in an even amount of oil. Apply enough oil to make the filter a solid and uniform blue, but do not go beyond that. 3. Allow the oiled filter to sit 20 minutes. Re-oil any dry spots that appear. Do not oil the filter excessively. Excessive oiling can cause damage to intake sensors.
