4.9. Gigabit Ethernet-SX PCI-X Adapter -DCCG163
The Gigabit Ethernet-SX PCI-X adapter provides a 1 Gbps (1000 Base-SX) full-duplex Ethernet LAN
connection with throughput on a standard shortwave multimode optical cable that conforms to the
IEEE 802.3z standard. It supports distances of 260 m for 62.5 micron Multi Mode Fiber (MMF) and
550 m for 50.0 micron MMF. AIX Network Install Manager (NIM) boot capability is supported with
this adapter.
Note:
For optimum performance, adapter should be placed in a 64 bit PCI-X card slot.
The Gigabit Ethernet-SX PCI-X Adapter incorporates an LC type connector on the card. This new,
smaller form factor connector is being used by the industry for the next generation of fiber optic
networking. If connecting into an older, existing SC type connector network, an LC-SC 62.5Micron
Fiber Converter Cable (CBLG223-1300) is required. This 2m length cable has a male LC type
connector on one end and a female SC type connector on the other.
Limitation:
Half Duplex (HDX) mode is not supported.

This adapter offers two 1 Gbps (1000 Base-SX) full-duplex Ethernet LAN connections with
throughput on a standard shortwave multimode optical cable that conforms to the IEEE 802.3z
standard.
This adapter also improves performance with the same jumbo frames and Large Send features as for
the Base-TX Ethernet PCI-X Adapter.
