Warning: Capacity and Transfer rate using the HW Data Compression embedded into the drive
depends on the pattern of the transferred data.
Need of a special "Dry Process" cleaning cartridge - Bull Express Reference: 05678 - for 50 cleaning.
Supported Systems
Escala S120, E620, E604e, E230, E250, T604e, T430 and T450.
4.2.4. 7/14 GB 8 mm Tape Drive (or VDAT 7/14 GB) "Eliant" (MTUG029)
Discontinued: 31/03/2001.
The 7 GB 8 mm Tape Drive is a SCSI streaming tape drive that uses 8 mm data cartridges. The
sustained data transfer rate is 1 MB per second.
The 7 GB 8 mm tape drive features data compression hardware using an adaptation of IDRC algorithm
which provides an effective capacity of up to 14 GB of data per cartridge, and an increased effective
data rate of 2 MB per second, assuming an average data compression 2:1, depending on the type of
data transferred.
Caution
:
The 8200 format is "
Read only
". When using this format the cartridge
MUST
be write protected.
4.2.5. 60/150 GB Internal 8 mm VDAT Tape Drive (MTUG042)
The 60/150 GB, 16-bit, 8-mm, Internal Tape Drive consists of a 5.25-inch, half-high, 16-bit tape drive.
This drive gives you a high-capacity tape drive for save/restore and archiving functions. It uses 8-mm
data cartridges and is compression capable, offering a capacity of up to 150 GB -- up to 375% increase
over the previous 20/40 GB 8-mm internal tape drive.
Characteristics
•
Capacity: 60 GB Native Mode, 150 GB (typical) Compression Mode
•
Form Factor: 5.25-inch, half-high
•
Media: 8-mm Data Cartridge with Smart Clean Technology
•
Technology: Helical Scan, Rotating Head
•
Operation: Streaming
•
Data Transfer Rate: 12 MBps Native Mode, 30 MBps (typical) Compression Mode
•
Interface: SCSI-2 16-bit Low Voltage Differential (LVD) / Single-ended (SE)
Asynchronous/Synchronous
Compatibility with other VDAT tape drives
The 60GB drive can read tapes written by the 20GB drive but cannot write tapes that can be read by
the 20GB drive. Tapes written by the 60GB drive can only be read on a 60GB drive. The 60GB 8mm
tape drive ONLY writes "Mammoth2(M2)" format. The 60GB 8mm tape drive READS "Mammoth"
or "Mammoth2(M2)" format.
