3. Basic Disk/Media Cabinet
The internal disks and media are housed in the basic disk/media cabinet.
3.1. Disk/Media Cabinets for Escala E & T Series (CABG019, CABG020)
3.1.1. Basic Disk/Media Cabinet Features
This description is not valid for the Escala T610.
The basic disk/media cabinet provides 5 Areas for disks or media.
•
The first Area is dedicated to the CD-ROM but can house additional media.
•
The second Area can house either two media or a disk cage.
•
The three other Areas can house a disk cage.
A disk cage can house either three 1" high disks or two 1.6" high disks.
The basic disk/media cabinet has 2 SCSI buses:
•
Bus N°2: One SCSI-2 Fast Wide or SCSI-2 Ultra Wide (E230, E250, T430 and T450) adapter for
media (Area N°1 and N°2)
•
Bus N°0: One Ultra SCSI or Ultra2 SCSI (E230, E250, T430 and T450) adapter for disks (Area
N°4 and N°5)
The system disk is always in the Area N°5 (Bus N°0) and supports RAID access.
All disks plugged in the Area N°3 and N°2 use an additional PCI adapter which is either a "Symbios
SE" adapter for Ultra SCSI disks with standard access, or a "DPT" adapter for Ultra SCSI disks with
RAID access.
The standard configuration uses the internal Ultra SCSI adapter for Area N°4 and N°5 (Bus N°0) with
the following options:
•
Bus N°0 and Bus N°1 RAID access with the "DPT" adapter (using 2 "DPT" adapter channels)
•
Bus N°0 standard access with the internal Ultra SCSI adapter and Bus N°1 RAID access with the
"DPT" adapter (using only 1 "DPT" adapter channel)
•
Bus N°0 RAID access (system disk) and Bus N°1 standard access (using 2 "DPT" adapter
channels).
If one bus is used with RAID access, the 2 "DPT" adapter channels will be used to get better
performances.
If one bus is used with standard Ultra SCSI access, the "mirroring" functionality will use an additional
"Symbios SE" adapter.
