The ASM CD-ROM contains:
•
The software to be installed on AIX: its packaging allows to install only the necessary components
(GUI, central server, and local host agents) on the AIX servers
•
The software to be installed on Windows NT servers (local host agent and the Java Runtime time
environment which is a pre-requisite)
Multiple components may coexist on the same AIX server. The recommended mode of deployment
uses a single AIX central server, at least one GUI, and local host agents on each AIX and Windows
NT server connected to the SAN. Optional GUI can be installed on each managed AIX server.
Multiple AIX central servers can also be installed in an enterprise. In such a configuration, each device
(AIX or Windows NT server, switch, disk subsystem, …) is managed by a single central manager, and
each system running GUI is configured to access to a single central server.
Case study: standalone servers (no HA-CMP) or clusters without PowerConsole
The next figure shows a sample of ASM deployment, with a single central server, local host agents on
SAN connected AIX and Windows NT servers, and multiple GUI. The enterprise LAN can be used for
the communication between GUI, central server and managed objects.
