The agent role requires SAN attachment.
A single central server can manage multiple SAN. Multiple central servers can also be installed in an
enterprise. In this type of configuration, each device (AIX or Windows server, switch, disk
subsystem,…) is managed by a single central manager, and each system running GUI is configured to
access a single central server. The central server(s) can be one of the SAN attached servers, or a
dedicated management station such as an Escala PowerConsole, or a Windows NT management
station, which can host other management products such as Navisphere or ECC.
All these software components use TCP/IP to communicate with each other, and with the managed
objects (DAS 4700/4700-2, switches, hubs, bridges, Symmetrix management stations,…).
7.1.3. Prerequisites
S@N.IT! is backward compatible with ASM. If an upgrade is performed, LUN access control
information is preserved.
Software requirements:
AIX 4.3.3
Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 5
Windows 2000 with Service Pack 1
Java runtime environment for AIX and Windows servers (available on the S@N.IT! CDROM).
SAN attached servers must have an operational Fibre Channel adapter:
A Fibre Channel adapter supported by Bull (e.g. Emulex LP 7000e or LP8000) with the Bull
standard device driver delivered for Escala servers
Emulex SCSI port driver (delivered within Express 5800 connection kits for DAS products or for
EMC products depending on the type of disk subsystem to be connected) for Emulex LP8000 or
LP850.
Using platforms other than Escala and Express5800 has to be submitted as an SFR.
