The CX600 is composed of one Storage Processor Enclosure (SPE), up to 16 Disk Array Enclosures
2 Gbits (DAE2) and one Standby Power Supply (SPS) enclosure.
The SPE enclosure includes the 2 Storage Processors which offer in the front-end eight 2Gb/s fibre
channel ports (four per storage processor) and in the back-end two dual 2Gb back-end fibre channel
loops to connect the DAE2. The SPE includes also 2 power supplies and 3 fan modules and does not
include any disk drives. Each storage processor supports 2GB or 4GB of cache, ie up to 8 Gb for the
array.
The DAE2 enclosure is the disk drawer which includes up to 15 drives. A minimum of 5 drives is
mandatory and a sixth drive is requested in case of hot spare. The CX600 supports up to 16 DAE2 to
reach a total of 240 drives and a raw capacity of 17.5 TB. CX600 supports 36GB and 73 GB 10krpm
and 15 krpm drives.
The SPS enclosure includes 2 SPS for redundancy purpose.
The CX600 brings a new level of performance for high bandwidth and high throughput demanding
applications. As it can deliver up to 1000 MB/s and 80000 IO/s in cache.
The CX600 supports all the already known array based software provided in the previous DAS with
increased capabilities : AccessLogix, SnapView and MirrorView.
The Access Logix software provides a secure, shared or selective access to the storage volumes in both
mixed and homogeneous platform environments.
The SnapView software is a non disruptive backup and recover enabler that facilitates increased data
availability. It provides a point in time image of information stored on a CX600, maintaining a view of
the data at the desired point and allowing access to that view for other uses such as backup or
application testing . CX600 supports up to 300 active snapshots with the ability to generate eight
snapshots per LUN. An additionnal host is requested on AIX to run the application using the snapshot
copies.
The MirrorView software provides highly available data storage across several CX600 and across
CX600 and DAS4700, possibly at separate locations. By maintaining synchronous data mirroring
between the arrays, MirrorView ensures data availability of byte for byte mirrored images.
MirrorView is an array base software so that hosts are not impacted by this feature. CX600 can
support up to 100 mirrors.
CX600 supports also Powerpath that provides both load balancing to access data through the different
SP ports, and end to end failover capabilities. CX600 does not support ATF.
The CX600 can be shared by AIX and Windows servers using the S@N.IT! Manager. Support of mix
of AIX with other operating systems requires Access Logix.
Navisphere Manager Version 6 is mandatory to manage a CX600.
CX600 supports various operating systems environments : Windows, AIX, Solaris, HP-UX, Linux ,
Netware, …
