4. DAS Management
4.1. DAS Connection Kit for Escala Systems
Each Escala server connected to a DAS subsystem can use a set of basic software products that are
part of the DAS connection kit for AIX, delivered on the Bull Enhancement CD-ROM.
The basic software provides the following:
Interoperability of AIX servers with DAS subsystems. The interoperability requires a set of ODM
configuration database, drivers and configuration commands. Some basic management commands
and utilities are also delivered, to simplify task automation.
The latest version of Flare (firmware) for the DAS subsystems.
Navisphere AIX agent, to enable the management of the server's attached DAS subsystems from
Windows NT based Navisphere management tools (or AIX based management tools). A license is
mandatory for each agent.
Navisphere AIX CLI (command line interface).
AIX errlog wrapper, which monitors the DAS subsystems and writes in the server's AIX errlog
service all the problems detected by the DAS itself. AIX errlog enables a reporting of DAS
operations and problems, either locally or remotely. The customization capabilities of AIX errlog
enable to activate administrator's defined scripts and commands for each event. AIX events can
also be automatically transmitted to Bull's remote maintenance centers.
Navisphere Supervisor, a Windows NT based management tool for DAS subsystems.
This basic software also contains Navisphere for AIX, DAS Manager and ArrayGuide. This software
supports legacy DAS systems.
Optional software includes Navisphere Manager for Windows NT (enhanced management tools), ATF
for continuous information access, Access Logix for DAS sharing in a multi UNIX and Windows NT
SAN environment.
4.2. Navisphere Supervisor and Manager (for Windows NT)
4.2.1. Product Overview
Navisphere Supervisor and Navisphere Manager are management and monitoring tool for DAS and
DAE storage systems connected to AIX and non-AIX servers either with a point-to-point SCSI or
Fibre Channel connection, or through a Storage Area Network. They provide a graphical user interface
that let administrators configure and manage DAS disk-array storage systems from a physical
component viewpoint.
Navisphere Supervisor and Manager run on a Microsoft Windows NT host, called a Navisphere
management station. The managed array(s) can be connected to the management station or to a server
that is accessible to the management station over a TCP/IP network. The server with the attached array
runs a Navisphere agent, which acts as a gateway between Navisphere applications and the attached
disk array.
