The iDAE components include:
•
One or two SPs (Storage Processors), with Fibre Channel circuitry, to manage the internal loops of
the RAID subsystem.
•
Up to 10 fibre channel dual ported disks.
•
One or two power supplies each with its own power cord.
•
One redundant fan module to cool the disks and another to cool the SPs.
•
To implement write caching, one or two SPSs (Standby Power Supplies – also called BBUs, i.e.
Battery Backup Units).
All these components can be replaced under power.
2.1.4.2. Packaging
The iDAE enclosures can be installed in a 30-disk deskside cabinet (1 iDAE and 2 DAE enclosures),
or in a 10-disk cabinet (with a single DAE enclosure).
2.1.4.3. Host connectivity and management
The iDAE has two fibre channel DB/9 copper connectors per Storage Processor for servers, hubs,
converters, and other fibre channel devices connection. MIAs are supported to provide optical
interface for 50 µm multimode optical fibers connection. 62.5 µm fibers can also be used.
The two ports of one SP correspond to a single fibre channel loop. The typical usage is the direct
connection of two servers on the same SP. The use of the two connectors to chain multiple devices
(servers, SPs or other disk subsystems, …) is not recommended. In case of connection to a fibre
channel fabric (switch), a single connector must be used. The second connector is inactive.
The iDAE can be managed in-band, (i.e. through the host fibre channel interfaces), from any server
connected to the iDAE, using the Navisphere software.
A RS232 with RJ11 connector is also available, enabling the management through a serial line.
RJ11/DB9M, plus DB9F/DB25M converters and a RS232 6m DB25F/DB25F cable are shipped with
each iDAE.
