2.1.3.2. Packaging
The DAE enclosures can be installed in a 30 disks deskside cabinet (with 3 DAE enclosures), or in a
10 disks cabinet (with a single DAE enclosure).
2.1.3.3. Host connectivity and management
The DAE offers one Fibre Channel DB/9 copper connectors per LCC for the connection to servers,
hubs, converters, and other kind of fibre channel devices. MIAs are supported to provide optical
interface for the connection of 50 µm multimode optical fibers. 62.5 µm fibers may also be acceptable.
The DAE, when used as a JBOD (and not within a RAID array), can be managed by Navisphere
Supervisor or Navisphere Manager from an NT server.
2.1.3.4. Architecture: SP, LCC, disks, memory
2.1.3.4.1. LCC (Link Control Cards)
DAE enclosures can be equipped with one or two LCCs. The LCC receives and electrically terminates
the incoming FC-AL signal from the host or other kind up “up stream” devices. The LCC passes the
input signal to its disk drives and then conducts the output signal, via cables, to an LCC of the next
DAE in the loop (if any). In addition, each LCC monitors the environmental status of the enclosure.
When enclosures are equipped with two LCCs, two distinct internal fibre channel loops can be
implemented, and in the event of an LCC failure, access remains possible through the other LCC.
Each LCC contains two connectors. One is reserved for the connection to another DAE. The other can
be used to connect another DAE or other type of devices, like servers, iDAE enclosures or DPE
enclosures. The distance between chained DAE enclosures is limited to 10m with copper cables.
2.1.3.4.2. Power Supplies
DAE enclosures can be equipped with one or two power supplies. Each power supply supports a fully
configured enclosure and shares power with the other power supply if one is present. Each power
supply is equipped with its own power cord, making the connection to two different power sources
possible.
