2.1.2. Disks
2.1.2.1. Overview
The DAS4500/5300/5700 and DAE 5000 Series storage subsystems use fibre channel, dual-port disk
drives. The dual port architecture has better resilience to failures than the old single port SCSI
technology.
The disks are offered in 18 GB, 36 GB and 72 GB capacities and different formatting, as described in
the table below. All of them are high performance, 10K or 15K rpm disks.

2.1.2.2.Disk formatting
Disk formatting depends on the disk subsystem in which they are integrated: it is either 520 bytes per
sector (for RAID subsystems), or 512 bytes per sector (JBOD). Thus, it is not possible to move disks
from a JBOD subsystem to RAID subsystem. Reformatting is required. (And could be proposed in
SFR). Changing disk formatting is not possible with the tools shipped with the disk subsystems, and
cannot be performed on site.
