Squelch level (SQL) - MENU 03
You can adjust the base level of your squelch threshold using this menu. Squelch is used to eliminate
unnecessary noise when the radio is receiving interference. Squelch can be used in combination with your
selected privacy codes to filter out unwanted interference. Ensure your paired radios have the same
matching privacy codes, before adjusting your squelch level.
A higher squelch threshold will require a stronger received signal to open the squelch on your radio. A
higher squelch can also filter out weaker signals. By lowering your squelch threshold, your radio range
may increase by hearing weaker signals, but you may also be subject to hearing more interference.
In general, you set your squelch to the lowest number possible that prevents hearing outside interference.
You increase your squelch to a higher number if you begin hearing too much interference.
NOTE: This transceiver has 10 (0-9) available levels: 0 means that the squelch is turned off. From level
1 to level 9 you will have different levels of noise reduction. The higher the number, the higher the
squelch threshold is set.
The steps for setting the squelch level are as follows:
1. Press the [MENU] key to enter the main menu and press the cdkey to enter the MENU 03.
2. Press the [MENU] key again to enter the SQL menu.
