the manufacturer’s ballistic charts for the ammunition chosen.
Dry your barrel carefully and sacrice a cartridge for «aming » it. Then lay down and without resting your
rie on any solid object, take careful aim at the target you have placed at the distance chosen, taking care to
comply with safety regulations, then re.
Depending on the point of impact on the target, correct the position of the frontsight vertically or for any side
drift.
If the point of impact is too high, raise the frontsight, if it is too far right, move the foresight to the right (and
viceversa).
Readjust your foresight until all the points of impact are at the point of aim.
Check that your adjustments are correct by ring at least three bullets.
Every year at the beginning of the hunting season, check that your rie is correctly adjusted by ring a series
of test shots.
At the same time have the gas operation system checked and adjusted by a specialist gunsmith.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
BEFORE CARRYING OUT THE DISMANTLING PROCEDURES FOR CLEANING, CHECK THAT YOUR RIFLE
IS COMPLETELY UNLOADED. PUT THE HAND COCKING BUTTON IN ITS “SAFETY” POSITION, OPEN THE
MECHANISM AND CHECK THAT YOUR GUN IS UNLOADED AND THAT THE MAGAZINE IS EMPTY. ALWAYS
KEEP THE MUZZLE POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION. FAILURE TO RESPECT THESE WARNINGS MAY LEAD TO
SERIOUS INJURY OR EVEN DEATH.
KEEP ALL AMMUNITION WELL AWAY FROM THE CLEANING AREA. NEVER CHECK THE MECHANICAL
OPERATION OF YOUR RIFLE USING LIVE AMMUNITION. FAILURE TO RESPECT THESE WARNINGS MAY LEAD
TO SERIOUS INJURY OR EVEN DEATH.
Your Browning BAR HC will operate better and provide higher reliability over a longer time if it is serviced and
stored away correctly.
Clean your Browning BAR HC after every use. Minimum cleaning includes cleaning the barrel, the mechanism
and wooden elements as well as lubricating main parts. If you encounter a functional problem, always clean
the whole rie thoroughly to see whether this solves the problem before asking your gunsmith for assistance.
To give you total satisfaction, your rie requires a minimum amount of maintenance that you can do yourself.
Browning recommends using «Legia Spray» oils specially designed for looking after your guns.
For a more thorough maintenance operation, give your gun to a specialist gunsmith at least once a year. This
will guarantee many years of perfect operation and total satisfaction.
Every time you use your rie, proceed as follows afterwards for servicing:
1. Before all else, put the hand cocking button in the “safety” position and check that your gun is unloaded
and that the magazine is empty.
2. Open the bolt until it is held in the open position.
3. Attach a piece of cloth onto your cleaning rod, followed, if necessary by a brass bush, both soaked in
solvent beforehand and insert the rod into the barrel from the muzzle end. Cleaning the barrel and the
chamber essentially consists of removing all traces of powder. During the cleaning operation, take care not
to scratch the barrel muzzle.
Any blow or damage to this essential element of your gun may have a disastrous eect on its accuracy.
4. After cleaning the barrel, dry it correctly and put a thin coat of Legia oil on it, using a piece of clean annel.
5. Clean the bolt and bolt unit and the inside of the receiver with a dry cloth, by inserting it in the magazine
housing (no matter whether the bolt is closed or not).
Remove any dry oil sticking to the walls and the magazine holder and replace with a thin coat of new oil.
6. Rub an oily cloth over all the outside metal surfaces making sure to remove nger marks (perspiration
