4. When you have cleaned the barrel, dry it properly and wipe it over with a lm of Légia oil using a clean cloth.
5. Wipe a dry cloth over the breech bolt and inside the receiver inserting it through the magazine housing (whether
the breech bolt is closed or not). Remove any dry oil which is sticking to the walls and the magazine and replace
it with a very light lm of fresh oil.
6. Wipe an oiled cloth over all the external metallic surfaces ensuring that you remove any nger prints (perspiration
is often acidic). It is common sense to lightly oil the rie every time it experiences unfavourable weather or
handling conditions.
7. Occasionally, examine the gas cylinder piston and the slide bars to remove any dirt. However this only becomes
necessary after approximately one thousand rounds. To gain access to the mechanism, remove the fore-end as
follows :
As the magazine’s hinged holder is closed, open the breech bolt until it catches ;
Unscrew the fore-end’s screw using a 3 mm key which is placed in the screw head’s holes, taking care not to
scratch the fore-end. Slide the fore-end forward to remove it and thus gain access to the mechanism (g. 7 and
8). (Note : the fore-end can only be removed if the breech bolt is open). Clean the outside of the piston, the gas
cylinder and the other visible parts using a very lightly oiled paintbrush.
Next dry the piston and as far as possible the gas cylinder.
These should be perfectly free of oil, so as not to encourage the build-up of scale. In anticipation of the rearm
not being used for a long period of time, you can oil these parts more liberally, but don’t forget to clean them
before the rearm is re-used Do not attempt to modify the gas intake adjustment under any circumstances,
this operation must be carried out by a qualied gunsmith. To reassemble the fore-end, follow the dismantling
instructions in reverse order. Before reassembly ensure that the breech bolt is open. Do not force, as the fore-end
could shatter.
8. The wood is cleaned using high quality oil, Browning recommends using Légia Spray for wood.
9. In theory, store your rearms and ammunition in dierent places out of the reach of children. Using a Browning
safe would be ideal. Put your rie in a dry airy place, away from any strong heat sources, so that the wood will
lose any humidity gradually without losing its shape or cracking.
