This magazine has a capacity which is directly linked to the regulations in force in each country. An additional
cartridge placed in the chamber beforehand will increase your rearm’s capacity by one cartridge.
To load your rearm, we recommend you follow these steps :
1. Put the safety catch on, pointing the barrel in such a way that it can do no harm.
2. Open the breech bolt until it clicks (breech block stop) and put a cartridge into the chamber.
3. Release the breech bolt by lowering the slide stop (g. 9).
4. Put a full magazine on the hinged holder or re-ll the empty magazine.
5. Close the magazine’s hinged holder. Your rie is now ready to re. Don’t forget to put the safety catch in the ring
position when you are about to re.
N.B. The basic versions may dier depending on the regulations in force in each country. Depending on the
regulations, the magazine may be xed and unconvertible.
CHANGING THE MAGAZINE
To remove the empty magazine, the magazine holder being open, hold the magazine’s side walls between thumb
and middle nger and press the rear edge of the hinged holder with the index. The magazine can then easily be
removed from the holder. To put a full magazine on the holder, t the opening of the front side in the corresponding
slot on the hinged holder and press the magazine down rmly onto its holder (g. 4).
If you don’t have a second magazine or if the magazine is xed, you can reload the magazine inside the rie as
shown in (g. 5). Always ensure, whichever system you adopt, that the cartridges have been correctly placed in the
magazine to avoid any “feeding” problems when ring.
TRIGGER
Your rie has been set in our factory to give you a trigger with a sharp pull and a short movement requiring
a force of about 1.3 kg, which, even so, is compatible with the strictest safety considerations. Only BROW-
NING personnel are authorized to adjust these settings.
LIGHT-WEIGHT TRIGGER: YOUR RIFLE HAS BEEN SET IN OUR FACTORY TO GIVE YOU A TRIGGER WITH A
SHARP PULL AND A SHORT MOVEMENT REQUIRING A FORCE OF ABOUT 1.3 KG, (+/- 100G) COMPATIBLE WITH
THE BROWNING INTERNATIONAL S.A. EUROPEAN SAFETY STANDARDS.
ADJUSTMENTS
Our aim has been to give your rie exceptional accuracy for a semi-automatic rie. The battue model has battle ribs
with rearsight layer which is elevation adjustable as well as a transversally adjustable foresight. The aût model has
an adjustable rearsight and a foresight with a beat hood which is transversally adjustable.
The battue model is factory set to 90 metres with Winchester ammunition aiming in the way illustrated in g. 6.
If you usually hunt at a distance or with special ammunition or if you frame the foresight dierently, you will obviously
have to customise your rearm’s adjustment. You may also nd it useful to adjust it to the OAR (Optimum Adjustment
Range) according to the selected ammunition ; to this end, you should consult the manufacturer’s shooting tables.
Dry your barrel carefully and select a cartridge to re. Next, get into the prone position and without resting the gun
on a hard surface, aim carefully at the target that you had positioned earlier at a chosen distance, whilst observing the
safety rules. Depending on the impact position on the target, correct the rearsight or the rearsight layer’s elevation and
the foresight’s transversal direction. If the impact is too high lower the rearsight, if it is too far to the right move the
foresight to the right (and vice-versa). Repeat the process until the impacts coincide with the point of aim. Conrm
the accuracy of your setting by ring at least three 3 rounds.
The rie may be tted with a telescopic sight on the receiver. This has four holes for tting scope mount bases.
Every year, at the beginning of the hunting season, re some rounds to check your rie’s settings.
At this moment, get a specialist gunsmith to check the gas.
ADJUSTING THE STOCK
Senkung und SchränkungDrop and cast
BAR ShortTrac and LongTrac ries are tted with a drop adjustment system (to reduce the drop by 3.5 mm or increase
the drop by 3.5 mm at the stock’s heel, the top of the butt plate, in relation to standard drop) and a cast adjustment
system (from 3 mm on to the left or 3 mm o to the right at the stock’s heel in relation to standard cast). To make
this adjustment, you have 5 stock spacers which are present separately in the box and the stock spacer which was
originally tted to your rie. They are numbered respectively 1, 2 and 3 and 1R/1L, 2R/2L and 3R/3L. This numbering
appears at the bottom left of each stock spacer (g 10).
The N°2 stock spacer was tted to the rie in the factory. If the drop and cast are correct, don’t touch anything. If your
rie needs to be adjusted, you should dismantle the butt plate and the butt plate’s holder. Next, using a long screwdriver,
unscrew the stock xing screw and dismantle the stock and the stock spacer (g. 11).
Several situations may arise :
1. Your rie’s cast is correct but you want to adjust the drop.
• The drop is too great : put the stock spacer 1 on the stock and reassemble it following the dismantling instructions
in reverse order.
• The drop is too low : put the stock spacer 3 on the stock and reassemble it following the dismantling instructions
in reverse order.
2. Your rie’s twist is incorrect.
•The twist is too far left and :
- The pitch is correct : put the stock spacer 2R/2L (with the writing 2R stock side) on the stock and reassemble it
following the dismantling instructions in reverse order.
- The pitch is too great : put the stock spacer 1R/1L (with the writing 1R stock side) on the stock and reassemble it
following the dismantling instructions in reverse order.
- The pitch is too low : put the stock spacer 3R/3L with the writing 3R stock side) on the stock and reassemble it
following the dismantling instructions in reverse order.
• The twist is too far right and :
- The pitch is correct : put the stock spacer 2R/2L (with the writing 2L cross side) on the stock and reassemble it
following the dismantling instructions in reverse order.
- The pitch is too great : put the stock spacer 1R/1L (with the writing 1L cross side) on the stock and reassemble it
following the dismantling instructions in reverse order.
- The pitch is too low : put the stock spacer 3R/3L (with the writing 3L cross side) on the stock and reassemble it
following the dismantling instructions in reverse order.
BUTT PLATE.
BAR ShortTrac and LongTrac ries have additional butt plates of varying thicknesses, which allow you to adjust the
stock’s length to your measurement. The average butt plate is assembled as standard at the factory. The thinnest
butt plate which is 7 mm thinner than the standard model and a butt plate which is 7 mm thicker are available as an
optional extra at your gunsmith’s. To put them in your rie you simply have to unscrew the standard butt plate, retain
the butt plate holder made of transparent polycarbonate and screw it back onto this butt plate holder that you will
already have chosen. The rie is nally ready to re.
MAINTENANCE
When you want to maintain or clean your rie, we recommend you adopt the following procedure :
1. Before you begin, put the safety catch on, ensure that your rearm is *unloaded and that the magazine is empty.
2. Open the breech bolt until it catches.
3. Insert your clearing rod into the barrel’s muzzle, rstly using a cloth and then if necessary brass brush, each should
have been soaked earlier with a good solvent. The main purpose in cleaning the barrel and the chamber is to
eliminate any traces of powder. When cleaning, take particular care not to scratch the barrel’s muzzle. Any knock
or damage inicted on this vital part of your rie, could have disastrous consequences on its accuracy.
