BAR SHORTTRAC-LONGTRAC :
The BAR ShortTrac or LongTrac rie that you have just purchased
is part of the extensive range of Browning products.
BASIC SAFETY RULES
1. Vergewissern Sie sich vor jeder Benutzung, daß die Wae nicht geladen ist.
1. Before handling, always ensure that your gun is not loaded.
2. Always keep the safety on when you are not shooting, even if you are certain that it is unloaded.
3. Never point a gun at someone, even if you are certain that it is unloaded.
4. Never re without knowing the precise point of impact. Never re straight at an object.
Beware of ricochets : Never re in the water or at rocks. Beware in particular of frozen or very hard
ground.
5. For reasons of safety as much as ballistic eciency, only use good quality ammunition of the same caliber as your
gun. This caliber is engraved on the right-hand side of the barrel.
6. In your own interest, as well as that of your gun, avoid allowing any foreign bodies enter the barrel. Earth and
snow, etc. can create dangerous zones of excess pressure.
7. Unload you gun between uses and during transport.
8. Systematically use a gun lock when you store your gun.
We have approved these two models of gun lock, both perfectly adapted to the mechanism and loading system of our
guns. Once installed, they fully prevent the gun from being red either accidentally or intentionally by another person.
ALL BROWNING FIREARMS SOLD ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD ARE SYSTEMATICALLY SUPPLIED WITH A GUN
LOCK.
9. Safety also involves properly storing your guns at home: consider buying a BROWNING gun safe.
Its basic operating principle is based on using part of the energy generated by the combustion gases, to ensure the
semi-automatic operation cycle.
In addition to its meticulous mechanical design, which incorporates the very latest manufacturing techniques, the BAR
ShortTrac-LongTrac oers you the following special features:
- A user-friendly slide catch, to make loading and unloading easier ;
- A precise gas intake system adjustment which will enable your gunsmith to adapt and harmonise the rie to the
ammunition being used;
- A specic rod* and action frame system, which guarantees impeccable operation with the dierent ammunition
used ;
- An anti-recoil breech stop which can be adapted to any (what ??) morphology;
- A stock adjustment system which allows exact adjustment for height and cast
- A locking indicator (red dot) in the ejection area which enables you to check whether the rie is ready to re at a
glance.
- Sights adapted to the hunter’s requirements.
TRIGGER LOCK
CABLE LOCK
We are pleased to identify this rearm with impeccable, safe operation, pleasure of use and excellent accuracy which are the
fruits of Brownings experience in semiautomatic ries spanning over 40 years.
Its perfect balance results essentially from the careful distribution of the moving parts, it is the same gas operating principle
which makes it incredibly easy on the shoulder. It is also this absence of apparent recoil, together with the use of an anti-recoil
pad and along with the qualities of the hammered barrel and its 7 lug locking which give it unrivalled accuracy.
The operation of your BAR ShortTrac – LongTrac has been tested in the factory with the full arsenal of cartridges from
the European market.
HOWEVER YOUR BAR ShortTrac – LongTrac’S ACCURACY HAS BEEN ADJUSTED EXCLUSIVELY WITH WINCHESTER
AMMUNITION WHICH WE WOULD RECOMMEND THAT YOU USE.
NUMBERING AND MARKING
Your rie’s serial number has been punched on the left hand side of the receiver. The calibre is written on the right
hand side of the barrel, as well as on the rear side of the magazine.
RECOMMENDATIONS
You have just taken delivery of your rie. To protect it against corrosion, the barrel’s external and internal surfaces have
been lubricatedd ; if you think it necessary, wipe any surplus oil using a soft, clean, dry cloth.
Only use reliable commercial cartridges of the correct calibre for your rearm. This calibre is engraved on the right
hand side of the barrel and on the rear of the magazine. We have studied and manufactured your rie in accordance
with the necessary safety regulations, but Browning disclaims any responsibility for any damage resulting from the
use of cartridges which give excessive pressure or whose dimensions are not conform.
Browning recommends using Winchester cartridges.
OPERATION
The operating principle, which is extremely simple, is based on diverting some of the combustion gas to a piston.
Under the pressure of this gas, the piston moves backwards, pushing the sliding parts (breech bolt and breech block)
to the rear of the rearm and causing the mechanism to open and eject the case. Under the pressure of the recoil
spring, the breech bolt/block unit is brought forward again and brings a fresh cartridge into the chamber.
An original feature of the rie is its rotating locking system : the lugs of the bolt rest against the wall of the barrel
itself, the bolt forms a rigid unit with the barrel which improves the rie’s accuracy. (g. 1) Your rie’s semi-automatic
operation allows you to re the cartridges in the magazine one after the other. When the nal cartridge has been
ejected, the breech remains open operated by the breech stop.
To bring the sliding parts forward, you simply need to lower the breech stop (g. 9). For obvious safety reasons, Keep
your ngers clear of the ejection area.
SAFETY CATCH
The safety catch on your rie is the transverse type. It is located on the trigger guard, behind the trigger. The enlarged
button makes it easy to operate.
Pushed to the right (g. 2), the rearm is on “safe”, with the trigger blocked. Pushed to the left (g. 3), a red line
appears : the rie is ready to be red.
Get into the habit of leaving your rearm permanently on “safe, whether it is loaded or not. Only release the safety
catch when you are about to re.
N.B. : some ries are tted with a left-handed safety catch. In this case, this safety catch is operated in the opposite
direction.
LOADING
our rie has a special feature which is exclusive to Browning : a interchangeable magazine xed on a hinged holder
(g. 4).
