the manufacturer’s ballistic charts for the ammunition chosen.
Dry your barrel carefully and sacrice a cartridge for «aming » it. Then lay down and without resting your
rie on any solid object, take careful aim at the target you have placed at the distance chosen, taking care to
comply with safety regulations, then re.
Depending on the point of impact on the target, correct the position of the frontsight vertically or for any side
drift.
If the point of impact is too high, raise the frontsight (and vice-versa). Insert the Allen key into the screw
located on top of the foresight and turn in a clockwise direction. if it is too far right, move the foresight to the
right (and vice-versa). Insert the Allen key into the screw located on the right side of the foresight and turn
in an anti- clockwise direction. Readjust your foresight until all the points of impact are at the point of aim.
Check that your adjustments are correct by ring at least three bullets.
Every year at the beginning of the hunting season, check that your rie is correctly adjusted by ring a series
of test shots.
At the same time have the gas operation system checked and adjusted by a specialist gunsmith.
ADJUSTING THE STOCK
Your BAR MK3 rie possesses a system for adjusting the stock’s pitch and advantage for a perfect t between
rearm and user.
To make this adjustment, you have 5 shims presented separately in the case and one shim already tted to
your rie in our works.
You can reduce or increase the pitch by more or less 3.5 mm at the heel of the stock (on the top of the butt
plate) in comparison with the standard pitch.
You can also modify the advantage by 3 mm to the left or to the right at the heel of the stock compared with
the standard advantage.
The 6 stock shims are respectively numbered 1, 2 and 3 and 1R/1L, 2R/2L and 3R/3L.
The reference number for each stock shim is to be found in their lower left-hand corner (g. 12).
Your gun is tted with shim N° 2 in our works.
If the pitch and the advantage suit you, do not change anything.
If your rie needs adjusting, the butt plate will need to be dismantled.
Then with a long N° 5 Allen key, unscrew the stock mounting screw and remove the stock and the stock shim
(g. 13).
Several situations are likely to occur:
1. The advantage of your rie is correct but you want to adjust the pitch.
- The pitch is too high: Put stock shim N° 1 in place on the stock and re-assemble in the reverse order to
dismantling.
- The pitch is too low: Put stock shim N° 3 in place on the stock and re-assemble in the reverse order to
dismantling.
2. The advantage on your rie is not correct.
The advantage is too far left and:
- The pitch is all right: put stock shim N° 2R/2L (with the 2R inscription towards the stock) in place on the
stock and re-assemble in the reverse order to dismantling.
- The pitch is too high: put stock shim N° 1R/1L (with the 1R inscription towards the stock) in place on the
stock and re-assemble in the reverse order to dismantling.
- The pitch is too low: put stock shim N° 3R/3L (with the 3R inscription towards the stock) in place on the
stock and re-assemble in the reverse order to dismantling.
- The advantage is too far right and:
- The pitch is all right: put stock shim N° 2R/2L (with the 2L inscription towards the stock) in place on the
stock and re-assemble in the reverse order to dismantling.
- The pitch is too high: put stock shim N° 1R/1L (with the 1L inscription towards the stock) in place on the
stock and re-assemble in the reverse order to dismantling.
- The pitch is too low: put stock shim N° 3R/3L (with the 3L inscription towards the stock) in place on the
stock and re-assemble in the reverse order to dismantling.
THREAD AND ACCESSORIES
Your Browning BAR rie may include a threaded muzzle thread for adding accessories to the end of the barrel,
usually a muzzle brake or a sound moderator.
CAUTION WHEN USING A SOUND MODERATOR.
A sound moderator produces a signicant change in the gas pressure inside the barrel when ring. This
aects how your Browning BAR rie operates.
1) ADJUSTING THE GAS OPERATING SYSTEM
If you want a sound moderator tting to your Browning BAR rie, it must be done by a Browning partner
dealer, who should check that the gas operating system is adjusted to the moderator and adapt it if necessary.
Once the adjustment has been made, you won’t be able to re the gun without the moderator tted unless
the gas operating system is readjusted again.
An improperly adjusted gas operating system can cause malfunctions and lasting damage to your Browning
BAR rie.
2) GUN CARE AND EYE PROTECTION
Using a moderator increases the amount of fouling in the barrel, but also in the action. It is vital that the inside
of the BAR barrel and receiver, and the moving parts, be cleaned regularly, preferably after each ring session.
Gas and particles of powder can pass through the ejection port with the cartridge when ring with a sound
moderator tted. Suitable protective eyewear must be worn for your safety.
Always make sure you choose a sound moderator that is suited to the calibre of your Browning BAR rie.
Always make sure you check that the sound moderator is securely tightened to the barrel before ring.
CAUTION WHEN USING A MUZZLE BRAKE.
As a rule, the gas operating system does not require any particular adjustment when using a Browning muzzle
brake. If you are using a non-Browning muzzle brake, you should have your Browning BAR rie operation
checked by a Browning partner dealer.
Most muzzle brakes generate more noise towards the rear of the rie. Suitable ear protection must be worn
for your safety.
Always make sure you choose a muzzle brake that is suited to the calibre of your Browning BAR rie.
Always make sure you check that the muzzle brake is securely tightened to the barrel before ring.
