REMOVE THE MAGAZINE FROM THE ARM AND MAKE SURE THAT THE CHAMBER IS EMPTY.
RELOAD AN EMPTY MAGAZINE INTO THE PISTOL AND LOWER THE HAMMER TO THE «DOWN» POSI-
TION. ALWAYS KEEP THE MUZZLE POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION.
FAILURE TO RESPECT THESE WARNINGS MAY LEAD TO SERIOUS INJURY OR EVEN DEATH.
ALWAYS WEAR PROTECTIVE GLASSES WHEN DISMANTLING AND CLEANING YOUR PISTOL TO AVOID
ANY RISK OF SPRINGS, PARTS UNDER PRESSURE FROM SPRINGS, SOLVENTS OR OTHER CLEANING
AGENTS COMING INTO CONTACT WITH YOUR EYES OR CAUSING INJURY.
KEEP ALL AMMUNITION WELL AWAY FROM THE CLEANING AREA.
NEVER CHECK THE MECHANICAL OPERATION OF YOUR PISTOL BY USING LIVE AMMUNITION.
FAILURE TO RESPECT THESE WARNINGS MAY LEAD TO SERIOUS INJURY OR EVEN DEATH.
Your Browning 1911-22 will operate better and provide higher reliability over a longer time if it is
serviced and stored away correctly.
Clean your Browning 1911-22 after every use. Minimum cleaning includes cleaning the mechanism
and the barrel internally and lubricating the main parts. If you encounter any operating problem,
always clean the whole pistol thoroughly to see whether this solves the problem, before asking your
gunsmith for assistance.
1) Dismantle the pistol as described in the «Dismantling» paragraph.
2) Check that the chamber and the bore do not contain any accumulation of powder. A normal
amount of powder residue may be present and this is not serious in itself. It can normally be
removed using a annel soaked in a re-arm compatible solvent.
3) Clean the bore of the barrel with a pistol cleaning rod and annel for .22 calibre pistols. Insert the
rod and annel carefully into the barrel from the chamber end and pull it through several times, to
avoid causing any damage to the muzzle chamfer. If too much residue has accumulated, it can be
removed by using a special brass barrel bore cleaning brush.
Dip the brush in suitable re-arm solvent or spray it with solvent and brush the chamber and bore
until clean.
4) After cleaning the chamber and the bore, dry them thoroughly with a clean annel.
5) Then, pass a cloth saturated in light rearm oil such as Legia spray, to keep the parts in good
condition.
6) Inspect the barrel and the chamber to make sure that no bits of annel have accidentally remained
inside. Should this not be the case, remove any remaining bits of annel.
7) Use a small brush or cloth for removing any debris, dirt or other foreign bodies that may be in the
receiver or on other parts of the mechanism.
8) Rub all apparent metal parts with an oil-soaked cloth and make sure that you remove all nger
marks. Lightly oil the dierent parts, both outside and in and then remove any surplus oil with a
clean cloth. (Figure 25).
9) Assemble the pistol as described in the «Assembly» paragraph.
IMPORTANT:
LIGHT OILS MAY EVAPORATE. IF YOUR BROWNING 1911-22 HAS BEEN STORED AWAY FOR A LONG
TIME, LUBRICATE IT COMPLETELY BEFORE RE-FIRING.
WARNING!
DO NOT OVER-OIL. USING TOO MUCH LUBRICATING OIL MAY PREVENT YOUR PISTOL FROM WOR-
KING CORRECTLY.
