LOwERING THE HAMMER
WARNING
WHENEVER YOU LOWER THE HAMMER, ALWAYS KEEP THE MUZZLE POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION.
MAKE SURE THAT YOU PISTOL IS COMPLETELY UNLOADED AND THAT NO NON-SPENT CARTRIDGE
IS IN THE CHAMBER.
FAILURE TO RESPECT THESE wARNINGS MAY LEAD TO SERIOUS INJURY OR EVEN DEATH
To lower the hammer from cocked to down position, we recommend that you proceed as follows:
1 Make sure that the rearm is completely unloaded as explained in the «Unloading» section.
Put the manual safety catch in the «safety on» position.
2 Load an empty magazine into the pistol.
3 Point the muzzle in a safe direction, hold the gun rmly in a normal ring position and move the
manual safety catch to the «safety o» position.
4 Take hold of the hammer with the other hand and pull the trigger so that the hammer can move
slowly forward, whilst you keep its movement under control at the same time (Figure 9). Let the
hammer come slowly forward until it reaches the half-cocked position.
WARNING
WHEN THE HAMMER GOES BEYOND THE COCKED POSITION, REMOVE YOUR FINGER FROM THE
TRIGGER
THIS WILL MAKE THE HAMMER STOP IN THE HALF-COCKED POSITION IF EVER IT SLIPS AWAY FROM
YOUR THUMB.
AILURE TO RESPECT THIS wARNING MAY LEAD TO SERIOUS INJURY OR EVEN DEATH.
5 With the hammer in a half-cocked position, pull the hammer slightly backwards and press the
trigger until the hammer goes beyond the half-cocked position.
6 Lower the hammer until it is in contact with the ring pin.
The hammer is now in a «down» position.
SLIDE
The slide catch is located on the left-hand side of the pistol (Figure 10). Whenever an empty magazine
is tted, the slide can be locked in the back position purely by taking hold of it by the grooved section,
and pulling it backwards as far as possible until the slide catch automatically enters the slot in the slide.
If no empty magazine is loaded, pull the slide as far backwards as possible, and hold it in position for
pushing the slide catch upwards into the slot. The slide is now locked in a back position.
When the last cartridge in the magazine has been red, the slide locks itself automatically in the back
position.
This position is an extra safety precaution and makes the chamber and the magazine easy to inspect.
When closing the slide, take care to keep your ngers away from the ejection opening and the trigger.
With the pistol muzzle pointed in a safe direction, simply lower the slide catch located on the left-hand
side of the receiver.
Immediately after closing the slide, lower the hammer to the «down» position and put the manual
safety catch in the «safety on» position.
MAGAZINE CAPACITY
The Browning 1911-22 magazine has a capacity of 10 cartridges.
