Introduction Warning Power Cord Follow the followings to avoid fire, damage, and electric shock. Use only the authorized power source (120VAC) for the printer. Do not plug too many leads into a single socket. Do not damage or modify the power cord or plug. Also, do not place furniture or any heavy objects onto it, bend or pull it by constraint. Do not use the power cord when it is damaged. Do not touch the power cord or plug with wet hands. Insert the power plug completely.
Follow the followings to avoid personal injury and damage of the printer. When using the printer, do not place it on a unstable environment, such as dilapidated table or top of the shelf. Do not place any heavy objects on top of the printer. DK Roll (DK Label, DK Tape) Follow the followings to avoid damage of the printer. Be careful not to drop the DK Roll. Introduction 3 Setting the DK Roll Applicable DK Rolls The usable types of DK Roll for the printer are shown below. This is a freely cuttable full-page adhesive tape. Thermal recording paper and thermal recording film are available. • DK Roll, DK Tape and DK Label are available. For the list of applicable DK Rolls, refer to "List of consumable items" shown in Î"Software User's Guide (PDF Manual)". • Be sure to use only genuine DK Roll for the printer.
STEP1 Before using the printer 4 5 Check that the roll release lever is in the up position. Insert the edge of DK Roll into the printing unit, and pull it out to just in front of the cutter. When the DK Roll could not be pulled out to just before the cutter in the step 4, insert the edge of DK Roll as possible and pull down the roll release lever, and then close the roll release lever.

Setting Daylight Saving Time: Menu 8 By setting Daylight Saving Time to "ON", it is possible to advance the clock one hour. It is also reflected to Time Display mode and time used for template. Press the Menu button in Time Display mode. Menu Selection mode is displayed. 3 Select "ON" by up or down arrow button ( / ) and press OK button. The setting is saved and the screen returns to Time Display mode.

1 Start up the PC and insert the CD-ROM into CD-ROM drive. 2 Click "Standard Installation". QL-series Installer starts up and P-touch Setup screen is displayed. • It may take a time to display the screen. • If it does not start up automatically, double click "Setup.exe" icon in CD-ROM. The preparation for installing the software starts and License Agreement screen is displayed. Each button enables the following operation. 1 Standard Installation P-touch Editor 4.2, P-touch Address Book 1.
STEP3 Connecting the printer to your PC 3 Read the license agreement very carefully. If you agree with the terms and conditions of the license agreement, click [Yes] to continue the installation. Customer Information screen is displayed. 4 Input "User Name" and "Company Name", and click [Next]. Choose Destination Location screen is displayed. 5 Click [Next]. 6 Check the location where you want to add the shortcut (function to access it easily by clicking) of software, and click [Next].
Check the setting, and if it is set correctly, click [Next]. Introduction 4 STEP STEP This section of the manual explains how to properly maintain this printer so as to ensure many years of reliable service. This section also covers how to troubleshoot potential problems and how to read and understand error messages.
STEP4 Maintenance and Troubleshooting Maintenance Maintenance of the printer must be done as needed. However, some environments require that maintenance must be done more frequently (e.g. in dusty conditions). Print head maintenance The DK Roll (thermal recording paper type) used with the printer is designed to clean the print head automatically. When the DK Roll passes the print head during printing and label feeding, the print head is cleaned.
4 Insert the edge (A) of cleaning sheet into the printing unit and pull it out to just in front of the cutter. • Insert the sheet without removing the A part of sheet. • Check that the printing surface of cleaning sheet is upward. Introduction 55 STEP After inserting the cleaning sheet into the printing unit, push down the roll release lever and remove the B part of cleaning sheet. STEP 6 Close the DK Roll cover and turn ON the power of the printer.
STEP4 Maintenance and Troubleshooting Replacing the cutter unit Eventually the cutting blade on the cutter unit will become dull and need to be replaced. At the appropriate time, purchase a new replacement cutter unit and install it according to the following procedure. For purchasing a replacement cutter unit, refer to Î"Software User's Guide (PDF Manual)". 1 Check that the cutter unit is located to the home position.
Once set in the correct position, tighten the screw which holds the cutting blade unit in place. Introduction 7 STEP For details, refer to Î"Setting the DK Roll" in page 23. Replacing the lithium clock battery A lithium battery is supplied in order to maintain the settings for the internal clock when the printer unit is not plugged-in to a normal power supply.
STEP4 Maintenance and Troubleshooting 3 Turn the mark (A) on cover to mark (B) on the printer using a coin etc. and remove the cover of battery.
