Introduction Thank you for purchasing the PT-9500PC. The PT-9500PC (hereafter, referred to as “this machine”) is a label printer that enables you to easily print custom labels after it is connected to a computer. This manual contains various precautions and basic procedures for using this P-touch. Be sure to read this manual before using the P-touch. Afterward, keep this manual in a safe place for future reference.

GENERAL PRECAUTIONS ■ P-touch 9500PC ● The PT-9500PC is a precision machine. Do not drop the PT-9500PC or subject it to strong shocks. ● Do not grab and lift the PT-9500PC by the tape compartment cover. The cover could come off and the PT-9500PC could drop and be damaged. ● The PT-9500PC may malfunction if left near a television, radio, etc. Do not install the PT-9500PC near any machines that will cause electromagnetic interference. ● Keep the PT-9500PC out of direct sunlight.
■ CD-ROM ● Do not scratch the CD-ROM. ● Do not subject the CD-ROM to extremely high or extremely low temperatures. ● Do not put heavy objects on the CD-ROM or apply force to the CD-ROM. ■ Regarding software use ● The software contained on the CD-ROM is meant for use with the PT-9500PC only. It may be installed on multiple personal computers for use at an office, etc.

Confirming the included accessories Open the box and confirm that the following items are included. If any item is missing or damaged, please contact the retail outlet where the PT-9500PC was purchased. ■ PT-9500PC Label printer ■ Serial interface cable Use this cable to connect the PT-9500PC to the serial port of a personal computer. ■ Tape cassette This cassette contains the tape for the labels. ■ AC adapter (model AD-9000) Connect to the power supply cord.

Preparations before creating labels Before creating labels with the PT-9500PC, the following preparations are necessary. Note ● The connection procedures are different depending on the operating system running on the personal computer and whether a serial connection or USB connection is used. For details, refer to “Installing the software” (→ P.23). Installing the software Install the printer driver to use the PT-9500PC as a printer with the personal computer and install the label design software.
Connecting the PT-9500PC Connect the PT-9500PC to the power source and a personal computer. Plug the power supply cord into an 3 electrical outlet (AC 120 V). Before use Connecting to the power source Connect the included power supply cord 1 to the AC adapter. Note Insert the AC adapter connector into the 2 AC adapter jack/socket on the back of the PT-9500PC.
Connecting to a personal computer Connect the PT-9500PC to a personal computer using the included interface cables. The interface cables used to connect to a USB port and a serial port are different. Windows® 98/98 SE/ Me/2000 Pro/XP Windows® 95/NT4.0 Advanced setup Connect to serial port. Mac OS 8.6-9.x Mac OS X 10.1-10.2.6 Basic setup Connect to USB port. Note ● Do not connect both the serial interface cable and USB interface cable to the PT-9500PC at the same time. The PT-9500PC may malfunction.
■ Connecting to a USB port Follow the following procedures to connect the PT-9500PC to the USB port of a personal computer running Windows® 98/98 SE/Me/ 2000 Pro/XP using the “Basic setup” (→ P.26) or to the USB port of a Macintosh. Insert the plug on the end of the USB 2 interface cable into the USB port on the back of the PT-9500PC.
■ Connecting to a serial port A personal computer running Windows® 95/ NT 4.0 must be connected to the serial port. To connect to personal computers running Windows® 98/98 SE/Me/2000 Pro/XP using the serial port, select “Connecting to a serial port” (→ P.36). Make sure that both the PT-9500PC and 2 the personal computer are turned off. If the power is on, turn them off. Insert the plug on the end of the serial 3 interface cable into the serial port on the back of the PT-9500PC.

Installing the tape cassette This section lists the types of tape that may be used with the PT-9500PC and explains the procedures to install the tape cassettes. Authorized tape The types of tape that may be used with the PT-9500PC are listed below. ■ TZ Tapes Standard Laminated Tape Installing the tape cassette This section explains the procedures to install the tape cassette. 1 Remove the stopper on the tape cassette.

Types of software used To use the PT-9500PC, the following software must be installed on the personal computer. Refer to the pages listed below for the type of operating system running on the personal computer. Software P-touch Quick Editor P-touch Editor Printer driver Software to enable the personal computer to use the PT-9500PC as a printer. Software to print labels using simple operations. Using Windows This section contains the procedures to install the software on personal computers running Windows® 95/98/98 SE/Me/NT 4.0/2000 Pro/XP. Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive and begin setup. The printer driver and the editing software are installed together Basic setup Advanced setup Select the software to install. For Windows® 95/NT 4.0 When installation is complete, click [Close]. Installing the software The software is installed separately.
Installation precautions When installing the software on a personal computer, note the following precautions according to the operating environment used. ■ Connecting to a USB port Do not connect the USB interface cable to the personal computer until the software has been installed. If the USB interface cable is connected to a personal computer before the software is installed, the following dialog box will appear. Click [Cancel], and then remove the USB interface cable.
3 If P-touch Quick Editor is selected, refer to steps 4-9 in “Installing P-touch Quick Editor only” (→ P.33). Then, proceed to step b (→ P.29). Click the button for Basic setup. → When the preparation is complete, the InstallShield Wizard dialog box appears with the message “Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for Brother P-touch Editor Version 4.0.” 5 Read the contents, and then click [Next]. → The dialog box to select the software to install appears.
Read the license agreement carefully, 6 and then click [Yes]. Select the destination folder where the 8 files will be installed, and then click [Next]. To select another destination folder, click [Browse]. → The Customer Information dialog box appears. Type the User Name and the Company 7 Name, and then click [Next]. Click “Only for me (system)” if the only person authorized to use this software is the person whose user name and password were used to logon when the computer was started.
Select “Yes, install the printer driver.”, → The Add shortcut dialog box appears. Specify where to add shortcuts for 0 P-touch Editor, and then click [Next]. If P-touch Quick Editor was selected in step 4, the following Question dialog box appears. Click [Yes]. To add no shortcuts, clear all of the check boxes. When connecting to a personal computer running Windows® 95/NT 4.0, proceed to step 5 in the “Connecting to a serial port” section of “Installing the printer driver only” (→ P.37).
d Click [Next]. Select “Install the software automatically f (Recommended),” and then click [Next]. → The setup preparation begins. → The necessary programs will be detected. → When the preparation for setup is complete, you will be instructed to connect the PT-9500PC to the personal computer. Connect the PT-9500PC to the personal e computer with the USB interface cable, and then turn on the PT-9500PC. For details, refer to “Connecting to a personal computer” (→ P.16).
→ When installation is complete, the Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box appears. Select “Yes, display the page.”, and then j click [Next]. Click [Finish]. → When the P-touch Editor installation is complete, the InstallShield Wizard Complete dialog box appears. → The Driver Setup (Brother PT-9500PC) dialog box appears again. i Click [Finish]. → The Setup Status dialog box appears and installation of P-touch Editor begins. k Click [Finish]. → Installation is complete.
Follow the instructions on each dialog Installing P-touch Editor only 5 box and start installation. Refer to steps 5-a in “Installing using basic setup” (→ P.27). → The User Registration dialog box appears. Install P-touch Editor 4.0 to design labels. Note ● P-touch Quick Editor cannot be used with computers running Windows® 95/ NT 4.0. Start the personal computer, and then 1 insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM → The Brother Setup dialog box appears. • It may take a short time until the Brother Setup dialog box appears.
Type your name and company name in 6 Name and Company respectively, and → The Setup dialog box appears and installation begins. then click [Next]. → The Registration Confirmation dialog box appears. Confirm that the name and company 7 name are correct, and then click [Yes]. To correct the registration information, click [No]. → During installation, the Add shortcut dialog box appears. Specify where to add shortcuts for 9 P-touch Quick Editor, and then click [Next].
Click “Yes, I want to restart my computer a now.”, and then click [Finish]. Installing the printer driver only When installing the printer driver only, follow the following steps. ■ Connecting to a USB port Start the personal computer, and then drive. → The Brother Setup dialog box appears. • It may take a short time until the Brother Setup dialog box appears. • If the Brother Setup dialog box does not appear, double-click the My Computer icon, and then double-click the P-touch icon.
4 Click the button for Driver. Select “Yes, restart immediately”, and 7 then click [Finish]. → Installation of the printer driver is complete, and the personal computer will restart. → The Driver Setup dialog box appears. 5 Select “USB cable”, and then click [OK]. ■ Connecting to a serial port Note ● When installing the PT-9500PC to the serial port of a personal computer running Windows® 98/98 SE/Me/ 2000 Pro/XP, install the printer driver according to following steps.
4 Click the button for Driver. → The Driver Setup dialog box appears. Select the port that the PT-9500PC will 7 be connected to, and then click [Next]. → The dialog box to confirm the installation information appears. Select “Serial cable”, and then click Confirm that the driver and port are 8 correct, and then click [Next]. Installing the software 5 [OK]. To correct the installation information, click [Back]. → The Driver Setup (Brother PT-9500PC) dialog box to indicate setup will begin appears.
Select the “Start up the Change Baud 9 Rate Wizard” check box, and then click Select the desired baud rate, and then a click [Next]. [Next]. Select 115,200 bps for the serial port baud rate using a personal computer that supports a baud rate of 115,200 bps. If the personal computer does not support a serial port baud rate of 115,200 bps, select the appropriate baud rate. → The Change Baud Rate Wizard (Brother PT-9500PC) dialog box appears. Select the appropriate Serial Port, and 0 then click [Next].
Select “Yes, I want to restart my d computer now.”, and then click [Finish]. ■ Using as a network printer This section contains the procedures to install the printer driver when using the PS-9000 print server (sold separately) designed exclusively for the P-touch series printers. When using the PS-9000 print server, the PT-9500PC can be used as a network printer. This function can only be used in a Windows environment.

Setting the personal computer and PT-9500PC baud rate Follow the following steps to change or confirm the baud rate for the personal computer and the PT-9500PC. The following procedure is shown based on Windows® XP. On the taskbar, click the Start button, 1 and then click Control Panel Select “Yes, I want to restart my 0 computer now.”, and then click [Finish]. → Control Panel appears. For Windows® 95/98/98SE/Me/NT 4.
3 Click Printers and Faxes. → The Printers and Faxes window appears. 5 Click the Device Setting tab. For Windows® 95/98/98 SE/Me, click the Advanced tab. → The Device Setting window appears. Click [Utilities], and then click 6 [Properties] that appears next to Utilities. Right-click the Brother PT-9500PC icon, 4 and then select “Properties”. For Windows® 95/98/98 SE/Me, click [Utilities]. → The Brother PT-9500PC Utility dialog box appears. → The Brother PT-9500PC Properties sheet appears.
8 Select the desired baud rate. 0 Click [OK]. → Setup is complete and the Brother PT-9500PC Properties sheet will close. Click [Apply]. → The baud rate will be changed. Note ● When using a personal computer that 9 Click [Close]. does not support a serial port baud rate of 115,200 bps, change the PT-9500PC baud rate to 9,600 bps. For details, refer to “Changing the baud rate” (→ P.101). → The Brother PT-9500PC Properties sheet appears again.
Select Brother P-touch Editor Version 4.0 Uninstalling the software 2 or P-touch Quick Editor. If the PT-9500PC will no longer be used with the personal computer, follow the following steps to uninstall the software. Double-click the My Computer icon, and 1 then click Add or remove programs. For Windows® 95/98/98SE/Me/NT 4.0 Select Brother P-touch Editor Version 4.0 or P-touch Quick Editor from the list in the Add/Remove Programs Properties sheet. → The Add or Remove Programs window appears.
Printer is no longer used 5 Click the button for Driver. Delete the PT-9500PC printer driver. To delete the PT-9500PC, select P-touch 9500PC from the Printer window in Control Panel (Printers and Faxes for Windows® XP) and delete. To completely delete the printer driver, follow the following steps. Turn off the PT-9500PC and remove the 1 interface cable from the personal computer. 6 Click [OK]. Installing the software Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM 2 drive.
Select “Delete Brother PT-9500PC,” and 8 then click [Next]. → The Confirmation dialog box appears. If “Replace with new Brother PT-9500PC” is selected, the previously installed printer driver is deleted and replaced with a new one. Select this option when upgrading the printer driver, or when using a personal computer running Windows® 2000 Pro/XP and changing to a PT-9500PC with a different serial number. If “Add Brother PT-9500PC” is selected, a new printer driver is added.
Using Mac OS 8.6-9.x Follow the following procedure to install the software on a Macintosh running Mac OS 8.6-9.x. ■ Creating labels with various designs Refer to “Installing P-touch Editor and the printer driver” (→ P.47). ■ Printing labels simply Refer to “Installing P-touch Quick Editor and the printer driver” (→ P.49). Double-click the P-touch Editor 3.2 Installing P-touch Editor and the printer driver 4 Installer icon. Installing the software Install P-touch Editor 3.
The programs that can be installed are listed below. Program P-touch Editor software PT-9500PC Driver Printer driver for the PT-9500PC Fonts (13 typefaces) Can install fonts for English like Atlanta, etc. Auto Format Templates A collection of pre-formatted templates for labels A collection of illustrations, etc. to arrange on the labels • If custom installation is not selected, all of the programs will be installed. Approximately 100 MB of available hard-disk space is required.
Confirm the drive to install the software Installing P-touch Quick Editor and the printer driver 4 to, and then click [Install]. To change the drive, click [Drive]. Install P-touch Quick Editor to print labels using simple operations and the printer driver. Note to the Macintosh until the software has been installed and the Macintosh has been restarted. If the USB interface cable is already connected to the Macintosh, remove the USB interface cable.
→ Installation begins. Installing the printer driver only Install only the necessary printer driver to use the PT-9500PC as a printer. Note ● Do not connect the USB interface cable → When installation is complete, the message “Installation is done.” appears. 5 Click [Quit]. to the Macintosh until the printer driver has been installed and the Macintosh has been restarted. To change the drive, click [Drive]. → The dialog box to select the programs to install appears. 8 Click [Quit]. 9 Click [Restart]. Clear the check boxes for all of the 6 options except for PT-9500PC Driver. → Installation of the printer driver is complete, and the Macintosh will restart.
Selecting the printer Uninstalling the software Select the PT-9500PC as the printer. Pull down the Apple menu 1 select Chooser. and If the PT-9500PC will no longer be used with the Macintosh, follow the following steps to uninstall the software. ■ Uninstalling P-touch Editor Double-click the drive where P-touch 1 Editor is installed. 2 Delete the P-touch Editor 3.2 folder. Double-click the drive where the 3 Macintosh operating system is installed.
■ Deleting the printer driver Remove the USB interface cable 1 connected to the PT-9500PC from the Macintosh USB port. Double-click the drive where the 2 Macintosh operating system is installed. In the System Folder, open the Extensions 3 folder and delete PT-9500PC and USB Installing the software PT-9500PC Extension. In the System Folder, open the 4 Preferences folder and delete PT-9500PC Prefs.
Using Mac OS X 10.1 or later Follow the following procedure to install the software on a Macintosh running Mac OS X 10.1-10.2.6. Install the printer driver after installing P-touch Editor or P-touch Quick Editor. ■ Creating labels with various designs Refer to “Installing P-touch Editor” (→ P.54). ■ Printing labels simply Refer to “Installing P-touch Quick Editor” (→ P.57). Installing P-touch Editor 3 Double-click the Mac OS X folder. Install P-touch Editor 3.
Double-click the P-touch Editor 3.2 5 Installer icon. Select the Feature Set and the programs 8 to install, and then click [Next]. → The Installer starts. Click [Next]. Double-click the P-touch Quick Editor Installing P-touch Quick Editor 4 folder. Install P-touch Quick Editor to print labels using simple operations. Note ● When installing the software, log on → The P-touch Quick Editor window appears. Double-click the Quick Editor Installer 5 icon. Start the Macintosh, and then insert the 1 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. → The P-touch CD-ROM icon appears. 2 Double-click the P-touch icon. → The Installer starts. 6 Click [Next]. → The P-touch window appears.
7 Click [Next]. 9 → The Choose Alias Folder dialog box appears. Click [Install]. → Installation begins. Select the location where you would like 8 to create an alias, and then click [Next]. → When installation is complete, the Install Complete dialog box appears. • For Mac OS X 10.2, select a location other than Dock. If Dock is clicked and installation continues, the alias will not be created in the Dock and the Dock icon will return to the initial settings. 0 Click [Done].
Type the name and password of the Installing the printer driver 3 administrator , and then click [OK]. Install the necessary printer driver to use the PT-9500PC as a printer. Note ● Do not connect the USB interface cable Double-click the Driver Installer.pkg 1 icon in the Mac OS X window. → The Welcome to the PT-9500PC Driver Installer dialog box appears. 4 Click [Continue]. → The Installer starts. 2 Click . → The necessary operating environment for installation is displayed.
Confirm the contents, and then click 5 [Continue]. → The Software License Agreement dialog box appears. Read the contents, and then click 6 [Continue]. To continue with installation, click 7 [Agree]. → The Select a Destination dialog box appears. Select the drive to install the printer 8 driver to, and then click [Continue]. Select the drive where Mac OS X is installed. → The dialog box to confirm the license agreement appears. → The Easy Install dialog box appears.
Click [Install]. → The dialog box to confirm the installation appears. a Click [Restart]. → Installation of the printer driver is complete, and the Macintosh will restart. To continue with installation, click 0 [Continue Installation]. After the Macintosh restarts, connect the b PT-9500PC to the Macintosh with the USB interface cable, and then turn on the PT-9500PC. For details, refer to “Connecting to a personal computer” (→ P.16). → Installation begins.
Selecting the printer 4 Double-click the Print Center icon. Select the PT-9500PC as the printer. Double-click the drive where Mac OS X 1 is installed. 2 Double click the Applications folder. No printers available to select The message “You have no printers available.” appears. Proceed to step 5. Printers available to select The names of available printers are displayed in the Printer List dialog box. Proceed to step 6. → The Applications window appears. 3 Double click the Utilities folder.
Select “PT-9500PC” and then click 7 [Add]. Uninstalling the software If the PT-9500PC will no longer be used with the Macintosh, follow the following steps to uninstall the software. ■ Uninstalling P-touch Editor Double-click the Applications folder in 1 the drive where Mac OS X is installed. Installing the software → The Printer List dialog box appears again. Confirm that PT-9500PC has been added, 8 and then close the Printer List dialog box. → The Applications window appears.
→ The software is deleted. Double-click the Uninstall P-touch Editor 3 folder. → The Uninstall P-touch Editor window appears. 4 → When uninstallation is complete, the Uninstall Complete dialog box appears. Double-click Uninstall P-touch Editor. 6 Click [Quit]. → The InstallAnywhere Uninstaller starts. 5 Click [Uninstall]. Double-click the Preferences folder in 7 Macintosh HD/Users/User Name/ Library/Preferences. Delete P-touch Editor 3.2 Prefs and 8 P-touch Editor 3.2. plist.
■ Uninstalling P-touch Quick Editor 4 Double-click Uninstall Quick Editor. Double-click the Applications folder in 1 the drive where Mac OS X is installed. → The InstallAnywhere Uninstaller starts. Click [Uninstall]. Installing the software 5 → The Applications window appears. Double-click the P-touch Quick Editor 2 folder. → The software is deleted. → The P-touch Quick Editor window appears. Double-click the Uninstall Quick Editor 3 folder.
6 Click [Quit]. 3 Double-click the Utilities folder. → The Utilities window appears. Double-click the Preferences folder in 7 Macintosh HD/Users/User Name/ Library/Preferences. 8 4 Double-click the Print Center icon. When the backing of a printed label is not cut, use the included label stick. For labels printed using the Half Cut option, peel back the backing from the cut line. Insert half of the printed label into the 4 hole in the label stick with the printed side facing up.

Because there are a variety of bar code standards, create the bar code labels after confirming the creation standards and scanning standards for the bar code reader. Changing the P-touch settings This section contains the procedures to change the PT-9500PC baud rate and an explanation for doing so in a LAN environment. Change the USB ID switch on the back of Changing the USB ID mode 3 the PT-9500PC. When multiple PT-9500PCs are used, the USB ID mode can be changed to recognize and use each PT-9500PC individually or to recognize all of the PT-9500PCs as a single printer.
Using multiple computers Changing the baud rate Although the recommended method of printing from multiple computers to the PT-9500PC is with the optional PS-9000 Ethernet Print Server, an alternative method is described below. The PT-9500PC can be used by multiple personal computers as a shared printer. Connect the PT-9500PC to one personal computer and set it up for common use. The PT-9500PC can then be used as a network printer by personal computers in the same network.
Maintenance The internal parts of the PT-9500PC will gradually become dirty with use. This section contains the procedures for maintaining the PT-9500PC. Label is not printed clearly 4 Press the feed/cut button. If the printed label contains a blank horizontal line or the characters are not clear, the print head and head roller may be dirty. ■ Self-cleaning Use the PT-9500PC self-cleaning function to remove any dirt from the print head.
■ Cleaning the print head and head roller If the print head is not cleaned by the selfcleaning function, follow the following procedures to clean the PT-9500PC. 1 Head roller Turn off the PT-9500PC. Press the cover release button and open 2 the tape compartment cover. 3 Remove the tape cassette. Cotton swab Use a cotton swab to clean the print head 4 and head roller. Head roller Install the removed tape cassette, and 5 then close the tape compartment cover.
■ Cleaning tape Use the TZ-CL6 cleaning tape with a tape width of 11/2” (36 mm) (sold separately) to clean the PT-9500PC easily. Press the cover release button and open 1 the tape compartment cover. Cleaning the cutter If the printed labels are not ejected from the PT-9500PC correctly, clean the cutter for cutting the labels. Turn off the PT-9500PC. Troubleshooting For PT-9500PC troubleshooting, refer to the following list of possible problems. Q&A Problem Cause Solution The interface cable is loose. The PT-9500PC does not print. Check that the interface cable is connected correctly, the tape cassette is installed correctly, and the tape compartment cover is closed. Problem Cause Solution Make sure that the PT-9500PC is turned on. Make sure that the interface cable is connected correctly. Error 99: the personal computer cannot detect the PT-9500PC. Make sure that the COM port where the PT-9500PC is connected is the same COM port selected in the Change Baud Rate Wizard. (Many personal computers have more than one COM port and COM2 may have been selected in error in the Change Baud Rate Wizard.

Raccordement à un PC Raccordez la PT-9500PC à un PC à l'aide des câbles d'interface fournis. Insérez la fiche de l'extrémité du câble 2 d'interface USB dans le port USB à l'arrière de la PT-9500PC. Avant l'utilisation de l'imprimante ■ Raccordement à un port USB Respectez les procédures suivantes pour raccorder la PT-9500PC au port USB d'un PC fonctionnant sous Windows® 98/98 SE/Me/ 2000 Pro/XP en “Configuration de base” (→ P. 26) ou au port USB d'un Macintosh.
■ Raccordement à un port série Un PC fonctionnant sous Windows® 95/NT 4.0 doit être raccordé au port série. Pour un raccordement à des PC fonctionnant sous Windows® 98/98 SE/Me/2000 Pro/XP via le port série, reportez-vous à la section “Raccordement à un port série” (→ P. 36). Veillez à ce que la PT-9500PC et le PC 2 soient hors tension. S'ils ne le sont pas, mettez-les hors tension. Insérez la fiche de l'extrémité du câble 3 d'interface série dans le port série à l'arrière de la PT-9500PC.
Appuyez sur la touche on/off de la Avant l'utilisation de l'imprimante 5 PT-9500PC. Touche on/off → La touche on/off s'allume (voyant vert). 6 Mettez l'ordinateur sous tension. Remarque ● Pour utiliser la PT-9500PC, le logiciel doit être installé sur le PC. Reportez-vous à la section “Installation du logiciel” (→ P. 23).
Insertion de la cassette de ruban Cette section présente les types de rubans susceptibles d'être utilisés avec la PT-9500PC et décrit les procédures d'insertion des cassettes de ruban. Précautions relatives à l'installation Lors de l'installation du logiciel sur un PC, respectez les précautions suivantes en fonction de l'environnement d'exploitation utilisé. ■ Raccordement à un port USB Ne raccordez pas le câble d'interface USB au PC tant que le logiciel n'a pas été installé. Si le câble d'interface USB est raccordé à un PC avant l'installation du logiciel, la boîte de dialogue suivante s'affiche. Cliquez sur [Annuler], puis débranchez le câble d'interface USB.
Cliquez sur le bouton du Configuration 3 de base. → Les préparatifs de l'installation commencent. Si vous avez sélectionné le logiciel P-touch Quick Editor, reportez-vous aux étapes 4 à 9 de la section “Installation du logiciel P-touch Quick Editor uniquement” (→ P. 33). Puis, passez à l'étape b (→ P. 29). → Une fois les préparatifs terminés, la boîte de dialogue InstallShield Wizard affiche le message “Bienvenue dans l'InstallShield Wizard de Brother P-touch Editor version 4.0.
Lisez attentivement le contrat de licence, 6 puis cliquez sur [Oui]. Sélectionnez le dossier de destination 8 dans lequel vous souhaitez installer les fichiers, puis cliquez sur [Suivant]. Pour sélectionner un autre dossier de destination, cliquez sur [Parcourir]. → La boîte de dialogue Informations client s'affiche. Saisissez le nom d'utilisateur et celui de 7 la société, puis cliquez sur [Suivant].
Sélectionnez “Oui, installer le pilote b d'imprimante.”, puis cliquez sur [Suivant]. Spécifiez l'emplacement des raccourcis 0 pour le logiciel P-touch Editor, puis cliquez sur [Suivant]. Pour n'ajouter aucun raccourci, désélectionnez toutes les cases. Si vous avez sélectionné le logiciel Ptouch Quick Editor à l'étape 4, la boîte de dialogue Question s'affiche. Cliquez sur [Oui]. Lors du raccordement à un PC fonctionnant sous Windows® 95/NT 4.
d Cliquez sur [Suivant]. Sélectionnez “Installer le logiciel f automatiquement (recommandé)”, puis cliquez sur [Suivant]. → Les préparatifs de l'installation commencent. → Les programmes nécessaires sont détectés. → Une fois les préparatifs de l'installation terminés, vous êtes invité à raccorder la PT-9500PC au PC. Raccordez la PT-9500PC au PC à l'aide e du câble d'interface USB, puis mettez-la sous tension. Pour plus d'informations, reportez-vous à la section “Raccordement à un PC” (→ P. 16).
→ Une fois l'installation terminée, la boîte de dialogue Fin de l'Assistant Ajout de nouveau matériel détecté s'affiche. Sélectionnez “Oui, afficher la page.”, j puis cliquez sur [Suivant]. Cliquez sur [Terminer]. → Une fois l'installation du logiciel P-touch Editor terminée, la boîte de dialogue InstallShield Wizard terminé s'affiche. → La boîte de dialogue Configuration du pilote (Brother PT-9500PC) s'affiche de nouveau. i Cliquez sur [Terminer].
Respectez les instructions de chaque Installation du logiciel P-touch Editor uniquement 5 boîte de dialogue et lancez l'installation. Reportez-vous aux étapes 5 à a de la section “Installation de base” (→ P. 27). → La boîte de dialogue Enregistrement utilisateur s'affiche. Installez le logiciel P-touch Editor 4.0 pour créer des étiquettes. Démarrez le PC, puis insérez le CD-ROM 1 dans le lecteur. Sélectionnez “Oui, afficher la page.”, 6 puis cliquez sur [Suivant].
Cliquez sur le bouton du logiciel P-touch Installation du logiciel P-touch Quick Editor uniquement 4 Quick Editor. Installez le logiciel P-touch Quick Editor pour créer des étiquettes à l'aide d'opérations simples. Cliquez sur “Oui, je veux redémarrer a mon ordinateur maintenant.”, puis sur [Terminer]. Installation du pilote d'imprimante uniquement Lors de l'installation du pilote d'imprimante uniquement, respectez les étapes suivantes. ■ Raccordement à un port USB Démarrez le PC, puis insérez le CD-ROM → L'installation du logiciel P-touch Quick Editor est terminée et le PC redémarre. → La boîte de dialogue Brother Setup s'affiche. • L'affichage de cette boîte de dialogue peut prendre un certain temps.
4 Cliquez sur le bouton du Pilote. Sélectionnez “Oui, redémarrer 7 immédiatement”, puis cliquez sur [Terminer]. → La boîte de dialogue Driver Setup s'affiche. Sélectionnez “Câble USB”, puis cliquez 5 sur [OK]. → L'installation du pilote d'imprimante est terminée et le PC redémarre.
Cliquez sur le bouton du Pilote. → La boîte de dialogue Drive Setup s'affiche. Sélectionnez le port de raccordement de 7 la PT-9500PC, puis cliquez sur [Suivant]. → La boîte de dialogue de confirmation des informations d'installation s'affiche. Sélectionnez “Câble série”, puis cliquez 5 sur [OK]. Confirmez que le pilote et le port sont 8 corrects, puis cliquez sur [Suivant]. Pour corriger les informations d'installation, cliquez sur [Précédent].

Sélectionnez “Oui, je veux redémarrer d mon ordinateur maintenant”, puis cliquez sur [Terminer]. ■ Utilisation en tant qu'imprimante réseau Cette section décrit les procédures d'installation du pilote d'imprimante en cas d'utilisation du serveur d'impression PS-9000 (vendu séparément) conçu exclusivement pour les imprimantes de la gamme P-touch. En cas d'utilisation du serveur d'impression PS-9000, la PT-9500PC peut être utilisée en tant qu'imprimante réseau.
Démarrez le PC, puis insérez le CD-ROM 1 dans le lecteur. Sélectionnez “Connexion réseau”, puis 5 cliquez sur [OK]. → La boîte de dialogue Brother Setup s'affiche. • L'affichage de cette boîte de dialogue peut prendre un certain temps. • Si celle-ci ne s'affiche pas, doublecliquez sur l'icône Poste de travail, puis sur l'icône P-touch. Sélectionnez la langue souhaitée, puis 2 cliquez sur [OK]. Cliquez sur le bouton du Configuration 3 avancée.
8 Cliquez sur [Suivant]. → La boîte de dialogue indiquant la fin de l'installation s'affiche. Réglage de la vitesse de transmission du PC et de la PT-9500PC Respectez les étapes suivantes pour changer ou confirmer la vitesse de transmission du PC et de la PT-9500PC. La procédure suivante concerne Windows® XP. Dans la barre des tâches, cliquez sur le 1 bouton Démarrer, puis sur Panneau de 9 Sélectionnez “Oui, je veux redémarrer 0 mon ordinateur maintenant”, puis cliquez sur [Terminer].
3 Cliquez sur Imprimantes et télécopieurs. Cliquez sur l'onglet Paramètres du 5 périphérique. → La fenêtre Imprimantes et télécopieurs s'affiche. Sous Windows® 95/98/98 SE/Me, cliquez sur l'onglet Avancé. → La fenêtre Paramètres du périphérique s'affiche. Cliquez sur [Utilitaires], puis sur 6 [Propriétés] en regard de Utilitaires. Cliquez avec le bouton droit de la souris 4 sur l'icône Brother PT-9500PC, puis sélectionnez “Propriétés”. Sous Windows® 95/98/98 SE/Me, cliquez sur [Utilitaires].
0 Cliquez sur [OK]. Installation du logiciel Sélectionnez la vitesse de transmission 7 souhaitée. → L'installation est terminée et la fenêtre de la Brother PT-9500PC Propriétés se ferme. 8 9 Cliquez sur [Appliquer]. → La vitesse de transmission est modifiée. Cliquez sur [Quitter]. Remarque ● En cas d'utilisation d'un PC ne prenant pas en charge une vitesse de transmission du port série de 115 200 bps, réglez la vitesse de transmission de la PT-9500PC sur 9 600 bps.
Sélectionnez le logiciel Brother P-touch Désinstallation du logiciel 2 Editor Version 4.0 ou le logiciel P-touch Quick Editor. Si vous n'utilisez plus la PT-9500PC avec le PC, respectez les étapes suivantes pour désinstaller le logiciel. Double-cliquez sur l'icône Poste de 1 travail, puis cliquez sur Ajouter ou supprimer des programmes. Sous Windows® 95/98/98SE/Me/NT 4.0 Sélectionnez le logiciel Brother P-touch Editor version 4.
L'imprimante n'est plus utilisée 5 Cliquez sur le bouton du Pilote. Supprimez le pilote d'imprimante PT-9500PC. Pour supprimer la PT-9500PC, sélectionnez P-touch 9500PC dans la fenêtre Imprimantes du Panneau de configuration (Imprimantes et télécopieurs sous Windows® XP) et effectuez l'opération de suppression. Pour supprimer complètement le pilote d'imprimante, respectez les étapes suivantes. 2 Insérez le CD-ROM dans le lecteur.
Sélectionnez “Supprimer une Brother 8 PT-9500”, puis cliquez sur [Suivant]. → La boîte de dialogue Confirmation s'affiche. Si vous avez sélectionné “Remplacer par une nouvelle Brother PT-9500PC”, le pilote d'imprimante préalablement installé est supprimé et remplacé. Sélectionnez cette option pour effectuer une mise à niveau du pilote d'imprimante ou, lorsque sous Windows® 2000 Pro/XP, vous remplacez l'imprimante par une PT-9500PC avec un autre numéro de série.
Sous Mac OS 8.6-9.x Respectez la procédure suivante pour installer le logiciel sur unMacintosh fonctionnant sous Mac OS 8.6-9.x. ■ Création d'étiquettes avec différents motifs Reportez-vous à la section “Installation du logiciel P-touch Editor et du pilote d'imprimante” (→ P. 47) ■ Impression d'étiquettes simple Reportez-vous à la section “Installation du logiciel P-touch Quick Editor et du pilote d'imprimante” (→ P. 49) Double-cliquez sur l'icône P-touch Editor 4 3.2 Installer.

■ Suppression du pilote d'imprimante Débranchez le câble d'interface USB 1 raccordé à la PT-9500PC du port USB du Macintosh. Double-cliquez sur le lecteur 2 d'installation du système d'exploitation Macintosh. Dans le dossier Système, ouvrez le dossier 3 Extensions et supprimez PT-9500PC et Installation du logiciel USB PT-9500PC Extension. Dans le dossier Système, ouvrez le dossier 4 Préférences et supprimez PT-9500PC Prefs.
Sous Mac OS X 10.1 ou version ultérieure Respectez la procédure suivante pour installer le logiciel sur un Macintosh fonctionnant sous Mac OS X 10.1-10.2.6. Pour poursuivre l'installation, cliquez sur 7 [Agree]. → La boîte de dialogue Select a Destination s'affiche. Sélectionnez le lecteur sur lequel vous 8 souhaitez installer le pilote d'imprimante, puis cliquez sur [Continue]. Sélectionnez le lecteur d'installation de Mac OS X.
Cliquez sur [Install]. → La boîte de dialogue de confirmation de l'installation s'affiche. a Cliquez sur [Restart]. → L'installation du pilote d'imprimante est terminée et le Macintosh redémarre. Pour poursuivre l'installation, cliquez sur 0 [Continue Installation]. Une fois le Macintosh redémarré, b raccordez la PT-9500PC au Macintosh à l'aide du câble d'interface USB, puis mettez la PT-9500PC sous tension. Désinstallation du logiciel Si vous n'utilisez plus la PT-9500PC avec le Macintosh, respectez les étapes suivantes pour désinstaller le logiciel. ■ Désinstallation du logiciel P-touch Editor Double-cliquez sur le dossier 1 Applications du lecteur d'installation de Mac OS X. Installation du logiciel → La boîte de dialogue Printer List s'affiche de nouveau. Confirmez l'ajout de la PT-9500PC, puis 8 fermez la boîte de dialogue Printer List.
→ Le logiciel est supprimé. Double-cliquez sur le dossier Uninstall 3 P-touch Editor. → La fenêtre Uninstall P-touch Editor s'affiche. → Une fois la désinstallation terminée, la boîte de dialogue Uninstall Complete s'affiche. Double-cliquez sur Uninstall P-touch 4 Editor. 6 Cliquez sur [Quit]. → Le programme InstallAnywhere Uninstaller démarre. 5 Cliquez sur [Uninstall]. Changement des paramètres P-touch Cette section décrit les procédures de changement de vitesse de transmission de la PT-9500PC et fournit les informations pour les exécuter dans un environnement LAN. Changez le commutateur USB ID situé à Changement de mode USB ID 3 l'arrière de la PT-9500PC. Si vous utilisez plusieurs PT-9500PC, vous pouvez changer le mode USB ID pour reconnaître et utiliser chaque PT-9500PC individuellement ou pour reconnaître toutes les PT-9500PC comme imprimante unique.
Utilisation de plusieurs ordinateurs Changement de la vitesse de transmission Bien que la méthode recommandée d’impression depuis plusieurs ordinateurs vers la PT-9500PC préconise l’utilisation du serveur d’impression Ethernet PS-9000 en option, vous trouverez ci-dessous une autre méthode. La PT-9500PC peut être utilisée par plusieurs PC comme imprimante partagée. Raccordez la PT-9500PC à un seul PC et configurez-la pour une utilisation courante.
Entretien Les pièces internes de la PT-9500PC s'encrassent au fur et à mesure de l'utilisation de l'imprimante. Cette section décrit les procédures d'entretien de la PT-9500PC. L'impression de l'étiquette n'est pas nette 4 Appuyez sur la touche avance/coupe. Si une ligne blanche horizontale apparaît sur l'étiquette imprimée ou si les caractères ne sont pas nets, il se peut que la tête d'impression et le cabestan soient sales.
■ Nettoyage de la tête d'impression et du cabestan Si vous n'utilisez pas la fonction d'autonettoyage pour nettoyer la tête d'impression, respectez les procédures suivantes pour nettoyer la PT-9500PC. 1 Cabestan Mettez la PT-9500PC hors tension. Appuyez sur la touche de libération du 2 couvercle et ouvrez le couvercle du logement de la cassette. 3 Retirez la cassette de ruban.
■ Ruban de nettoyage Utilisez le ruban de nettoyage TZ-CL6 de 1 1/2 po (36 mm) de largeur (vendu séparément) pour nettoyer facilement la PT-9500PC. Appuyez sur la touche de libération du 1 couvercle et ouvrez le couvercle du logement de la cassette. Retirez la cassette de ruban et insérez le 2 ruban de nettoyage. Refermez le couvercle du logement de la 3 cassette. Appuyez sur la touche Avance/coupe. 4 → Le nettoyage commence.
Réinsérez la cassette de ruban, puis 5 refermez le couvercle du logement de la cassette. Remarque ● Veillez à ne pas toucher la coupeuse lorsque vous nettoyez la PT-9500PC. ● La tête d'impression est brûlante pendant Annexes et immédiatement après l'utilisation de l'imprimante. Ne nettoyez pas la PT-9500PC immédiatement après l'impression d'étiquettes.
Détection de pannes Pour la détection des pannes de la PT-9500PC, reportez-vous à la liste suivante des problèmes possibles. Questions et réponses Problème Cause Mesure Le câble d'interface n'est pas branché correctement. La PT-9500PC n'imprime pas. Une erreur d'impression est indiquée. La cassette de ruban n'est pas correctement insérée. Le couvercle du logement de la cassette est ouvert.
Problème Cause Mesure Vérifiez que la PT-9500PC est sous tension. Vérifiez que le câble d'interface est correctement raccordé. Erreur 99 : le PC ne peut pas détecter la PT-9500PC. Vérifiez que le port COM auquel la PT-9500PC est raccordé est identique à celui qui est sélectionné dans l'assistant pour le changement de la vitesse de transmission.
