Overview 7
The LDAP protocol allows you to search for information such as fax numbers and E-mail addresses from your
server. When you use Fax, I-Fax or Scan to E-mail server features, you can use the LDAP search to find fax
numbers or E-mail addresses.
Note
The LDAP protocol is not supported for China.
Changing the LDAP configuration using a Browser 7
You can configure and change LDAP settings using a web browser. (For more information, see Changing the
LDAP configuration using a web browser (MFC-J6910DW only) on page 50.)
LDAP operation using the control panel 7
After you configure LDAP settings, you can use the LDAP search to find fax numbers or E-mail addresses for
the following features.
Fax sending (See the Basic User’s Guide for sending operations)
I-Fax sending (See Internet fax on page 54 for sending operations)
Scan to E-mail server (See the Software User’s Guide for sending operations)
When you are ready to enter a fax number or E-mail address, follow the steps below:
a Press (Phone Book).
b Press to search.
c Enter the initial characters for your search by using the buttons on the Touchscreen.
Note
You can enter up to 15 characters.
d Press OK.
The LDAP search result will be shown on LCD before the local address book search result with . If
there is no match on the server or the local address book, the LCD will show
Results cannot be found.
