Hardware maintenance schedule
FLS devices require minimal maintenance for the hardware components. Brocade recommends
cleaning the fiber-optic connectors on a fiber-optic port and the connected fiber cable each time
you disconnect the cable.
In addition, you can replace the following hardware components as needed:
Copper and fiber optic modules (SFPs (mini-GBICs) and XFP transceivers)
10 Gbps Ethernet module
Installing or replacing a 10 Gbps Ethernet module
The 1-port and 10 Gbps Ethernet modules are optional. FLS-STK models come with modules
installed, but you can remove or replace them if necessary. You can order the FLS with a 10 Gbps
module installed at the factory, or you can upgrade your device later.
This section provides the steps for installing, removing, and replacing the 10 Gbps Ethernet
module. You will need the following tools to perform these procedures:
#2 Phillips screwdriver
Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) kit.

NOTE
Slide-in modules are not hot-swappable. You must power down the device before installing or
removing a module.
Follow the steps below to install an optional module.
1. Power down the device.
2. Remove the blank metal plate (or a previously installed module) from the appropriate slot by
removing the two screws with a flat-head screwdriver.
