3.9.1 BeforeTurningOntheSystem
1. FinishtheinstallationasdescribedinChapter3.5 and3.6
2. Ensurefibercablesarestilldisconnected!

3. Ver ifythatthePo werLEDislit.IfthePowerLEDisnotlit,carefullyusethevoltmeterto
verifythecorrectvoltageandpolarityattheradioconnector.TurnoffthePo werSupply
beforemakinganycorrections.

5. ConnectRSLtestleadcabletoradioandplacevoltmeterwithreadingsinview.
6. Loosenthepolemountbracketsenoughtoallowyoutoswingtheunithorizontally.
7. Reference Chapter 3.5forillustrationofantennamountboltsandtheirpurpose.
3.9.4 Roughalignt heradioantennas
8. Settheradioterminaltothepredefinedazimuthifavailable.I fnot,youmayutilize
binocu larsorsignalmirrortolocatethefarendradiolocation.
9. Ifyoucanseethefarendradioterminalestimatethealignmentvisuallyandtightenthepole
mountbracketswithfineadjustmentboltsettothemidd leofad justmentrange.
10. Ensurethehorizontaladjustmentboltsaresnug;onlytightenboltsonequarterofaturn.
11. Slightlyrotateeachantennaup/downforbestverticalalignmentandleft/rightfor best
horizontalalignmentbyfindingthemaximumRSLvoltagereading.
12. Toensuret hattheantennasarenotalignedonasidelobe,theymustberotatedatleastten
degreesoneachsideofthevisuallyperceivedalignmentcentertoensurethatthetrue
maximumRSLvoltageisfound.
Thewidthofthecenterbeamisonly0.4º (80X)or0.9º(80)and
thefirstsidelobebeamisonly1degreeofff romcenter.
Settheantennaintheposit ionthatresult s inthehighest RSLvoltagereading.
