The drug use does not impact the comfort, safety and/or efficiency of co-workers or
customers
If you’re using a prescribed drug (e.g. muscle relaxants, pain medication, anti-depressants)
and have been informed or have reason to believe that the use of this drug may limit your
ability to perform your work duties safely and efficiently – and/or impact the comfort, safety
and/or efficiency of co-workers or customers - you are required to advise your manager. Your
manager will in turn consider what accommodations, if any, can be made to facilitate your
ability to work in a safe and productive manner. Please note that you are not required to
indicate the specific medication in use and all information will be handled confidentially.
Misuse
If it is brought forward that substance use or misuse (whether that substance be prescribed or
otherwise), is suspected, your manager or the President (in collaboration with our external HR
partners) will investigate the incident and/or allegation. Any employee who has violated this
policy will be subject to discipline up to and including termination, legal action and criminal
liability.
Support provided by Bradley Smoker
We recognize that addiction to a substance may be a medical condition and encourage those
who suffer with dependency to voluntarily seek treatment and rehabilitation. If you require an
extended leave of absence (more than 5 days) due to this medical condition, the Illness and
Injury policy found in the Vacation, Leaves & Time Away section of this handbook would apply.
Our goal is to restore performance and safety levels while supporting affected employees. If,
however, performance doesn’t improve, disciplinary actions may be taken.
Expectations at Bradley Smoker Events
During Bradley Smoker events, please remember that as an employee attending a staff event
you are still representing the company and we ask that you conduct yourself accordingly. As
alcohol may be consumed at these events, please also drink responsibly. We support a safe
ride home and encourage you to elect a designated driver, take a taxi or public transportation
after drinking. We will also, in some circumstances, provide safe transportation home from our
sponsored events.
