lost in emails, including being respectfully human to one another. If you can’t get up and walk
over to someone, just pick up the phone.
We invite and accept differences
We expect you to be accepting and open about differences in others and will do so ourselves.
While not the reason for this expectation, it is in line with anti-discrimination laws which
legislate not making hiring decisions and treating one another differently on the basis of certain
attributes such as race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, religion, political belief, marital status,
family status, physical or mental disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or
expression, age, unrelated criminal conviction, etc. At Bradley Smoker, we extend this to
include other differences, such as appearance, demeanour, personal likes/dislikes, etc.
We value other points of view
Being a team-oriented and respectful workplace requires that we all have the opportunity to
share our diverse points of view. We want to hear your ideas, thoughts and perspectives and
expect that you do the same for one another without making assumptions or passing judgment.
We view mistakes as learning opportunities
We view and encourage you to view mistakes as learning opportunities; in doing so, it’s okay to
admit that things didn’t go as planned and to discuss the situation with others to see what
learning can be drawn from it.
We take ownership for our “stuff” and our work
As above, we recognize when we’ve made mistakes and own it by trying to understand how we
can prevent it in the future. We also take ownership of the work we do by never seeing things
as “someone else’s job” and by having pride in what we do.
We recognize your needs as individuals
Within a workplace setting, we can often seem very similar to one another. The reality is we
each have varying needs with respect to how we learn and what we need to be successful. In
recognizing that, we take reasonable steps to help you be productive, and to continuously learn
and grow.
We include others & create a sense of belonging
We support an inclusive environment where all employees have a strong sense of belonging
not only to their team, but to the company as well. We want everyone to feel included and
connected to their team. This means such things as ensuring that we’re all sharing relevant
information with all members of our teams, inviting all interested parties to meetings (when it
makes sense to do so), and if going out for lunch with a group of people (for instance), ensuring
that no one is left out.
We respect one another’s space
While we highly encourage and support open communication throughout the company, we ask
that you also keep in mind the workspace of others.
