Vacation pay at termination of employment
If your employment ends (either voluntarily or involuntarily) and you’ve taken more vacation
days than you’ve earned (after your vacation has been pro-rated to your final date of
employment), the vacation you’ve taken but didn’t earn, will be deducted from your final pay.
Any vacation that was accrued up to your end date, and not used, will be paid out on your final
cheque.
Sick Leave
If you’re unable to come to work due to illness, effective January 1
st
, 2017 regular full-time
employees are provided with up to 5 paid days per calendar year (pro-rated for part-time
employees based on average hours worked). For employees who start after January, sick leave
will be pro-rated to your start date (e.g. if you start on July 1, you will get 2.5 sick days for that
year, and then 5 days the following January).
Let your manager (as well as the Payroll & Benefits Administrator) know as early as possible by
phone, email or text, and do so each day if you’re away for more than one day. Your manager
will enter your sick time in JLM (refer to the JLM section for further details).
For employees in Galesburg, you must phone the GM’s cell phone or the person she
designates if she’s away. Please do not text or email. The GM will enter your sick time in
JLM.
Sick leave must be taken in minimum half-day increments and may only be used for your own
illness or injury (i.e. not that of a family member). If you’re sick for more than two or three
consecutive days, we reserve the right to request a doctor’s note. If you have an illness that
becomes persistent or requires medical care, you may qualify for sick leave through
Employment Insurance.
There is no carry-over or pay-out of sick time under any circumstances.
Medical & other important appointments
For salaried employees, If you need to take time off for an appointment, (doctor, dentist,
physiotherapist, parent/teacher meetings, need to be at home for a repair, etc.) and less than
half a day (i.e. 3.75 hours or less) is needed, you can simply make up the time during the
current week. If half a day or more is needed,
you may use sick or vacation time. In either case,
please coordinate with your manager (or another
manager if yours is not available). We ask that
you consider Bradley Smoker’s business
priorities when scheduling appointments and
where necessary, make arrangements to have
your duties covered in your absence.
For hourly employees, coordinate all appointment absences with your manager and track
appropriately on your time sheet.
In a community culture, team
members care for one another.
A big part of that is also taking
care of YOU!
