NOTE: When using 4 in. (10.2 cm) vent pipe, use a 4 in. (10.1 cm) to 3 in. (7.6
cm) reducer and exit the building wall with 3 in. (7.6 cm) vent pipe using the 3
in. (7.6 cm) 90 vent terminal supplied. Two 45 elbows are equivalent to one
90 elbow.
Example of Total Vent Length
A 3 in (7.6 cm) venting system has a total of six 90° elbows and a total straight pipe
length of 20 ft (6.1 m). Equivalent vent length for elbows: 6 x 5 ft = 30 ft (9.2 m).
Total equivalent vent distance = 20 ft + 30 ft = 50 ft (15.2 m). This is equal to
the maximum allowed distance of 50 ft (15.2 m) for this model using 3 in (7.6
cm) vent.
A 4 in (10.2 cm) venting system has a total of twelve 90° elbows and a total straight
pipe length of 120 ft (36.5 m). Equivalent vent length for elbows: 12 x 5 ft = 60 ft
(18.3 m). Total equivalent vent distance = 120 ft + 60 ft = 180 ft (54.8 m). This is
equal to the maximum allowed distance of 180 ft (54.9 m) for this model using
4 in (10.2 cm) vent.
