INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION - SUPPLEMENT SHEET SPACE HEATING
PIPING CONNECTIONS - HEAT EXCHANGER (see figures 1 & 2)
The internal heat exchanger contained in this appliance is designed for a maximum working pressure of 150 p.s.i.
(1034 kPa) and maximum supply temperature not to exceed 180°F (82°C). These limits must not be exceeded.
Irreparable damage to the appliance will occur which will nullify the warranty. The heat exchanger has been designed
for use with non-potable water. If replacing an existing water heating appliance, be sure to turn off electrical power,
heating fluid and / or gas supply to the existing appliance.
The inlet and outlet connections are identified on the top of the appliance. Please note that these fittings have been
supplied with plastic plugs. The plugs shall be removed from these fittings before proceeding with the installation.
CAUTION: HEAT EXCHANGER FITTINGS CONTAIN SPECIAL PLASTIC COMPONENTS. WHEN REMOVING THE
PLASTIC PROTECTOR PLUGS, CARE MUST BE TAKEN NOT TO DAMAGE THE INTERNAL PLASTIC COMPONENTS
OF THE HEAT EXCHANGER FITTINGS.
Heat exchanger connections should be made with unions. If sweat fittings are used, DO NOT APPLY HEAT TO THESE
FITTINGS. Sweat tubing to adapter before fitting adapter to the exchanger connections.
The heat exchanger has been designed for operation in a closed system. A suitable expansion tank shall be installed
in the space heating circuit. Consult local codes for proper use, sizing and installation of an expansion tank. (See
figure 2) Provisions shall be made to control thermal expansion.
Due to the elevated operating temperature needed to supply adequate hot water for space heating, an ASSE approved
mixing valve has been provided and shall be installed in the hot (potable) water outlet piping as shown in Figure 1.
Directions for proper installation and adjustment are provided with the mixing valve.
Notice: Failure to properly install and regulate the ASSE approved mixing valve (provided) may increase the danger of
scald injury and nullify the warranty.
CAUTION: Hotter water increases the risk of scald injury. Scalding may occur within 5 seconds at a setting of 135°F
(57°C). Water temperature over 125°F (52°C) can cause severe burns or death from scalds. Children, disabled and
the elderly are at the highest risk of being scalded. Please feel the water before bathing or showering.
SYSTEM LAYOUT FOR COMBICOR WATER HEATING SYSTEM (see figure 2)
1) Expansion Tank to be sized to system and located at highest point.
2) Pressure reducing valve may be needed at “system fill” and / or “cold water supply”.
3) Backflow preventer may be needed at “system fill”.
CAUTION: SUPPLY TEMPERATURE MUST NOT EXCEED 180°F (82°C)
