160BPMbyage60.Thisfallinheartrateisusuallylinear,decreasingbyapproximatelyoneBPMforeach
year.Thereisnoindicationthattraininginuencesthedecreaseinmaximumheartrate.Individualsofthe
sameagecouldhavedifferentmaximumheartrates.Itismoreaccuratetondthisvaluebygettinga
stresstestthanbyusinganagerelatedformula.
Youratrestheartrateisinuencedbyendurancetraining.Thetypicaladulthasanatrestheartrateof
approximately72BPM,whereashighlytrainedrunnersmayhavereadingsof40BPMorlower.
TheHeartRatetableisanestimateofwhatHeartRateZone(HRZ)iseffectivetoburnfatandbetteryour
cardiovascularsystem.Physicalconditionsvary,thereforeyourindividualHRZcouldbeseveralbeatshigher
orlowerthanwhatisshown.
Themostefcientproceduretoburnfatduringexerciseistostartataslowpaceandgraduallyincrease
yourintensityuntilyourheartratereachesbetween6085%ofyourmaximumheartrate.Continueat
thatpace,keepingyourheartrateinthattargetzoneforover20minutes.Thelongeryoumaintainyour
targetheartrate,themorefatyourbodywillburn.
