13.5 Program Run Messages
While in Run Mode, the PMX CNC will tell you in clear and concise prompts exactly
what to do to run the program. These messages will appear in a green box in the middle
of the screen.
Any Event Comments you entered during programming will appear on the Data Input
Line (See section 7.3.2 to use Event Comments).
Once the program starts, a Run Time Clock will appear to the right of the status line at
the top of the screen. This clock displays the time remaining until the end of the program
or the next tool change, and will count down as the program is run. You must view your
TOOL PATH in program setup for the clock to be accurate.
13.6 STOP
At any time, the program may be halted by pressing the STOP key. This freezes the
program at that point. You may choose to continue running the program by pressing the
CNC RUN softkey or pressing the GO key. You may also run the program by using the
Electronic Handwheel by pressing the TRAKING softkey.
13.7 Feedrate and Speed Overrides
In program Run Mode, the programmed X, Y and Z axis feeds, rapid speeds and spindle
speeds may be adjusted temporarily. You may override the spindle speeds or feeds with
the SPINDLE OVERRIDE or FEED OVERRIDE hard keys located above and below the
electronic handwheel.
Press the SPINDLE OVERRIDE key and then rotate the handwheel clockwise to increase
the spindle speed, rotate counterclockwise to decrease the spindle speed. The amount of
change is displayed by the Load Meters located on the bottom of the screen. Each pulse
of the handwheel adjusts the spindle speed by 2%. Pressing the button a second time
turns off this feature. The same can be done for Feedrate Override by pressing the button
below the handwheel.
13.8 Data Errors
In order to run, a program must make sense geometrically. For example, you can't
machine a .250-inch diameter circular pocket using a .500-inch end mill.
Data errors will nearly always be detected when the ProtoTRAK PMX CNC runs through
a program. They may also be detected in the Set Up Mode when using the Tool Path
Graphics routines. Whenever the ProtoTRAK PMX CNC detects a data error a message
will appear that will tell you the error number (you may wish to record this number for
troubleshooting purposes) and the event where the error was detected. This is not
necessarily the event that is in error since the system often "looks ahead" to make sure
there is compatibility from one event to another. In addition, an explanation is given for
each data error type as well as a suggested solution. Press the RETURN soft key to go
back to the Select Mode screen, correct your error, and proceed.
