Setting the slave mode: Depending on your camera and ash settings, the master ash may emit more than
one burst of light in quick succession (called a “pre-ash”). Pre-ash is used to help the camera meter and/or
focus, and is done automatically by the camera. If the slave ash is not set correctly, it may be triggered by the
pre-ash and re before the camera’s shutter opens. In order to ensure that the VX-710C res at the correct
time, there are two different slave modes available: modes S1 and S2.
To select the correct slave mode, follow these steps:
1. Press the MODE button repeatedly to cycle through the ash modes until the S1 or S2 icon appears on the
LCD.
A. The S1 icon (
) has one arrow to indicate that the slave ash unit will re on the rst burst of
light. Use this mode when the master ash is set to manual mode.
B. The S2 icon (
) has two arrows to indicate that the slave ash unit will ignore the preash
and will re on the second burst of light. Use this mode when the master ash is set to TTL or
automatic modes.
2. Press the left and right navigation buttons to set the ash output, and the up and down navigation buttons
to ne-tune (see Using the Manual Flash Mode on page 26).
