If the solar storage tank is installed in a system that utilizes a heat transfer medium
other than potable water, a separate (external) heat exchanger must be installed.
The external heat exchanger must be constructed such that if a failure occurs, it will not
result in contamination of the potable water. For a solar system piping diagram that
incorporates an external heat exchanger, see Figure 3.
