5.3 Replacing the Fuse
• T o pre v ent electr ic shoc k, bef ore chec king or replacing the fuse , be sure to
tur n off the PO WER s witch of the tester proper and unplug the scanner’ s
A C po w er cord.
• Mak e sure that the fuse used conf or ms to the instr ument specifi cations ,
including shape , r ating, and char acter istics . Using a fuse with diff erent r at -
ing or shor t-circuiting, the fuse holder will damage the instr ument.
1. T ur n off the PO WER s witch of the tester proper and unplug the scan -
ner’ s A C po w er cord from the electr ical outlet.
2. Disconnect the A C po w er cord from the A C LINE connector on the rear
panel.
3. Use a slotted-head scre w dr iv er to remo v e the fuse holder , as sho wn in
Fig. 5-1 .

• The pre-arcing time-current characteristic of fuses are named dif ferently in the UL
and IEC standards. Use fuses conforming to both or either of the standards.
