Know Which Version of
PostgreSQL You’re Using
Starting with DaVinci Resolve 12.5.4 on macOS, DaVinci Resolve requires PostgreSQL 9.5,
which is necessary for compatibility with macOS versions above 10.12 Sierra. All previous
versions of DaVinci Resolve on macOS use PostgreSQL 8.4, and you must upgrade PostgreSQL
before upgrading to macOS 10.12 Sierra or later.
IMPORTANT If you’re upgrading from a previous version of DaVinci Resolve that uses
8.4 to a new version of DaVinci Resolve that uses 9.5, it’s vital you read the instructions
located in /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Upgrade
PostgreSQL/ before you upgrade.
If you’re unsure what version of PostgreSQL you’re using, check to see what versions appear in
the /Library/PostgreSQL/ directory.

on macOS systems shows which
versions of PostgreSQL you’re using
Using the DaVinci Resolve Project
Server Application
When you install DaVinci Resolve, an additional application is installed in the DaVinci Resolve
application directory on macOS and Windows, called DaVinci Resolve Project Server. This is a
stand-alone application that lets you create, manage, backup, restore, and most importantly
share project databases on any workstation. Using this application, it’s not necessary to launch
DaVinci Resolve just to manage your databases, and it’s no longer necessary to use Terminal to
set up database sharing as before (although you still can if you want to).
