Setting Up to Record
Depending on how your workstation is set up, it’s possible to simultaneously record to multiple
tracks in the Fairlight page at once. How many tracks you can record to depend entirely on
what hardware you have available. This section describes the process of recording to tracks in
the Fairlight page.
Patching Inputs
Before you can record anything, you need to use the Patch Input/Output window to patch an
available audio input to a track. If you’re computer has nothing else, the inputs of your
workstation are available to connect whatever audio device is set up as the default audio input
on your system to the track you want to record to.
To open the Patch Input/Output window, do one of the following:
Choose Fairlight > Patch Input/Output.
Click the Input menu at the top of the channel strip of the track you want to record to,
and choose Input.
The Input pop-up menu lets you open the Patch Input/
Output window with that track selected
To patch an audio source to an audio destination:
1 Make sure that the Audio Source menu is set to Audio Inputs, and the Audio
Destination menu is set to Track Input.
2 On the right, click the audio input that you want to patch so it’s highlighted.
3 On the left, click the audio destination that you want to patch so it’s highlighted also,
if it’s not already. In this simplified example, channel 1 of the Scarlett 2i2 is being
connected to Audio 1, which is the only track in the timeline.
Selecting a source and a destination to patch
4 Click the Patch button at the bottom of the window, and your recording setup will
