User Manual

Table Of Contents
To create optimized media for one or more selected clips:
Right-click one of the selected clips, and choose Generate Optimized Media from the
contextual menu.
All optimized media is written to the same directory as the Cache files are written, which
defaults to the first scratch disk listed in the Preference dialog’s Media Storage panel. The
location of Cache and Optimized files is also selectable via the “Cache files location” setting in
the Master Settings panel of the Project Settings.
Seeing Which Clips Have Been Optimized
If you want to check to see which clips have been optimized, an Optimized Media column in the
list view of the Media Pool will be populated with the resolution of whatever optimized media
you’ve created (Original, Half, Quarter, and so on). Clips that have not been optimized appear
with “None.
Using Smart Bins to Keep Track of
Clips Needing Optimizing
You can also keep track of which clips need optimization using Smart Bins. There are two rules
you can use, either individually or together:
One rule to show which clips have not yet been optimized, using MediaPool Properties
> Optimized Media > is > None. This should be the first rule, with the top “Match”
drop-down set to “All.”
Another rule to show which clips are in a format that would benefit from optimization,
using MediaPool Properties > Format > contains > “FormatName” where FormatName
is the name of the format you want to optimize as listed in the Format column of the
Media Pool in List view. If you want to optimize multiple formats, you can Option-click
the + “add rule” button to add another qualifier that you can set to “Any,” as seen in the
screenshot below. Then you can add as many rules with as many different formats as
you’d like to optimize.
The rules of a Smart Bin set up to optimize MXF and RED clips
The resulting Smart Bin displays all clips in the specified formats that have not yet been
optimized, which makes it easy to use the Select All command to select all non-optimized clips
and use the Generate Optimized Media command.
