WebSphere Portal and Composite Applications
WebSphere Portal composite application update is made available to the Lotus Notes 8 user through the
Home Portal Account setting in Lotus Notes 8, as determined by the Domino administrator. In addition, the
administrator must also have installed the Lotus Notes 8 server client installer on the same WebSphere
Portal server to which the user's Home Portal Account points. WebSphere Portal composite application
update pertains most applicably to the Lotus Notes 8 user who is working with composite applications that

Enabling user-initiated update for Notes 8
You can enable users to manually initiate updates by setting a Domino policy as described below:
1.
Using the Domino Administrator 8 client, open the Desktop policy settings document.
2.
On the Basics tab, locate the Provisioning section at the bottom of the document.
3.
In the "Allow user to do user initiated updates" field, click "Enable" to allow user-initiated updates
or "Disable" to prevent user-initiated updates.
This setting overrides any other setting applicable to user-initiated update that may reside in the
plugin

customization.ini file.

Displaying the Eclipse Update Manager UI in Notes 8
To allow users to install or update custom or third-party Eclipse features or plug-ins into the Lotus Notes
runtime after Lotus Notes install, you can enable display of the Eclipse Update Manager user interface. By
default, the Update Manager UI is not displayed.
To expose the update manager in Lotus Notes, add the following line to the user's
plugin

customization.ini) and then restart Lotus
Notes.

Once this line is resident, users can access the Update Manager UI from within Lotus Notes by clicking
File > Application > Install.
