Lotus Notes, Domino Designer, Domino Server
Specifying the home portal account using policy
To specify an IBM WebSphere Portal server as the home portal account server for Notes 8 Beta, you can
set the following values using the Lotus Domino Administrator client. These settings affect fields on the
Notes 8 Home Portal Account preference page.
Complete the following fields on the Portal Server Basics tab for users who need to access portlets, for
example, those using composite applications that contain portlets:
Home Portal Server -- Type the name of the portal server that host Notes user accounts.
Authentication URL -- Type the URL that Notes users need to access in order to authenticate with the
portal server.
Authentication type -- Choose either J2EE-Form or HTTP for Web-based authentication.
Home Portal URL -- Specify the WebSphere Portal server URL.
See the Domino Administrator help topic "Creating a security settings document" for additional
information.

Specifying the home portal account using preferences
To use Lotus Notes 8 features that require a WebSphere Portal server, such as composite applications
that contain portlets, users need a Home Portal account. The Home Portal account is a unique account
that specifies the WebSphere Portal server to connect to for composite applications that require a
WebSphere Portal server. The Domino administrator can set up a Home Portal account for users,
however Lotus Notes 8 users can create and edit some elements of the account using the following
procedure.
After users have installed Lotus Notes 8 and prior to using composite applications that contain portlets (or
other features that require a WebSphere Portal server), users need a Home Portal account.
Considerations:
z
The IBM Lotus Domino administrator uses a security policy document (Portal Server Basics) to
control the following fields:
Portal server name
Authentication URL
Authentication type
Home Portal account URL
z
See the "Specifying the Home Portal account using policy" release note for related information.
The policy settings would override the account settings on the client Preferences page, and
create the account if it did not already exist. If no policy is defined, then whatever the user enters
in the Preferences page would be used. The Home Portal account is used by composite
applications that contain portlets, however it can be used by any client application that needs to
connect to the same Portal server.
z
The Portal server can be checked periodically for updates.
z
Home Portal account information is stored in the Contacts database.
z
Administrators should note that there is a similar preference page available when working in the
Lotus Expeditor client, described in the Expeditor help at the following Web address:
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/ledoc/v6r1/index.
