12. Select the features to install and click Next.
These options include the following:
z
Activities -- Select this to install the Activities feature. An activities server is required to use this
feature.
z
Sametime (integrated) -- This option is not available for selection. Basic Sametime capabilities
such as chat and livenames are automatically installed. A Sametime server is required to use this
feature.
z
IBM Lotus Productivity Tools -- Select this to install IBM Lotus Documents, IBM Lotus
Presentations, and IBM Lotus Spreadsheets.
z
Composite Applications Editor -- Select this to install the Composite Applications Editor for use
with composite applications.
13. Read the preview screen for installation directory, features, and size and click Install.
This process may take several minutes.
A security acceptance screen from any firewalls you have installed may appear asking for
confirmation, even if the installation is being done locally.
A progress bar displays while the installer copies files to the install directory and provisions the
installed features.
Note: If errors occur and you are installing Lotus Notes on a system on which an existing version of
this Lotus Notes release, such as a Beta version, may not have been properly uninstalled, see the
instructions in the "Uninstalling Notes on Linux" release note and reference the information in the
"Cleaning a previous Notes installation from your client" release note.
14. Read the installation summary screen and click Finish to exit the installation wizard.
Note: If installation is unsuccessful, you can open the install log file at <
install

dir>/
framework/rcp/installer
_
logs/framework
_
install.log.
Understanding what was installed
The following information describes what was installed.
z
After install, application icons should be visible for all users by clicking Computer - More
Application - Office and reside in /usr/share/applications.
z
The Notes installer does not create desktop shortcut icons.
z
A new data directory is created for this user in /root/lotus/notes/data.
z
A new workspace is created for this user in /root/lotus/notes/data/workspace.
z
The Notes classic binaries are installed to <
install
_
dir
>.
z
A shared data directory is created in /etc/lotus/notes/data.
Running the Notes client on Linux as a user after root user install
Once the administrator has installed the Notes client, users can log in and run Notes.
1. Log in as a non-root user.
2. Start Lotus Notes by clicking the Computer option - More Applications... - New Applications - Lotus
Notes 8.
3. Respond to Notes setup prompts as they appear.
You should update your mail template for this release. Your contacts should be automatically updated.
