IBM Lotus Notes, Domino, Domino Designer 8 Release Notes

The installation path cannot contain special characters such as # or $.
z
Only one instance of Lotus Notes 8 should be installed on a client workstation at any given time.
z
If installation does not complete successfully, uninstall the program using the instructions in
Uninstalling Notes on Linux release note and reference the information in Cleaning a previous Notes
installation from your client release note.
Procedure -- Installing Lotus Notes 8 Beta for Linux
Read the considerations section above before starting Lotus Notes 8 installation.
1. Shut down all applications.
Exit out of any existing versions of Workplace Managed Client, Sametime, and Notes. Make sure that
all processes are killed, including eclipse/
j
avaw, eclipse/notes2w, sametime, notes, taskldr, and
nsdexec.
From a command prompt, change to the to Notes/data directory and type the following command:
/opt/ibm/lotus/notes/nsd.sh -kill
2. If you have installed a previous Beta version of this Lotus Notes release, uninstall it before continuing.
For information about uninstall, see the "Uninstalling Notes on Linux" release note.
3. As the root user, open a new terminal window or File Browser.
4. If you are obtaining the installation kit from a Web downloads page, open your Mozilla GTK2 browser
and navigate to the Web page from which to obtain the download.
For current information about browser requirements, see the release notes.
5. Locate the Lotus Notes installation media kit and save it to a local folder, for example to your /root
folder. The supplied media kit name is Notes.ismp.linux.
For example, obtain the installation media kit CD or open a browser and navigate to the Lotus
Notes/Domino Web site at which the installation media kit resides.
6. Navigate to the folder in which you saved the installation kit and unpack the tar file.
7. Change to the directory that contains the unpacked setup.sh installation executable.
Note: Verify that the directory also contains the deploy directory, setup.bin, and updateSite.zip. These
contain the needed install manifest and feature and plug-in JAR files.
8. Run the setup.sh installation executable by double-clicking on setup.sh or by running ./setup.sh in a
shell.
Note: You must switch user to root or be logged in as a root user to install.
9. Read the Welcome screen and click Next.
10. Read and accept the license agreement terms and click Next.
11. Accept the default install directory (/opt/ibm/lotus/notes) or choose a different install directory.
You must install to a directory that is readable, but not writeable, by all users.
Note: Upgrade from a Notes 7.x installation is not supported; install to a different directory or uninstall
Notes before installing.
