Preparing your BlackBerry Enterprise Server
environment for upgrade
Preparing to upgrade from BlackBerry Enterprise Server
Version 2.2
When you upgrade from BlackBerry Enterprise Server Version 2.2, you migrate BlackBerry Enterprise Server and
user configuration information from BlackBerry-related IBM Lotus Domino databases into a relational database.
Prepare for this upgrade by cleaning up the data and creating backups before you migrate user accounts into the
BlackBerry Configuration Database.
If you want wireless synchronization to occur automatically after the upgrade process completes, you must also
instruct users to synchronize their BlackBerry device capabilities before you upgrade the BlackBerry Enterprise
Server.
Perform system maintenance
Perform system maintenance to help minimize the upgrade time and to help promote an uninterrupted upgrade
and user migration.
> Perform the following actions:
Preparing to upgrade from BlackBerry Enterprise Server Version 2.2
Preparing to upgrade from BlackBerry Enterprise Server Version 4.0
Action Procedure
Remove inactive user accounts, including old
state databases, from the BlackBerry
Enterprise Server.

Compact all BlackBerry-related IBM Lotus
Domino databases.
> Use the IBM Lotus Domino Compact tool with the following settings:
•Use the
Compact –B command to recover unused space and reduce on-disk
file size.
Note: If the IBM Lotus Domino server uses transaction logging, perform a full
database backup soon after you run the Compact –B command
• Use the BES parameter to compact all databases in the Lotus/Domino/Data/
BES directory.
