Preparing the Portable Drive
The first step in uploading or downloading is to preparing a blank drive car-
tridge (disk). This task is accomplished using DartComm, Arachnid’s com-
munication software on the central computer. When preparing a blank disk
DartComm creates folders and copies necessary system files to the disk.
Once a disk has been prepared, it is ready to be used for file transfers:
uploads and downloads.
Uploads
Which files are to be transferred to the prepared disk are chosen by the
operator through Dartcomm. Once chosen, Dartcomm will copy the selected
files from the central computer’s hard drive to the appropriate folders on the
portable drive. The drive is then taken to the location and connected to the
machine (see Connecting a Portable Drive below).
Downloads
Any files waiting on the Black Widow for Download will automatically trans-
fer to the portable drive connected to the Black Widow (see Connecting a
Portable Drive below). The drive can then be connected to the central com-
puter and, through DartComm, the operator selects which files are to be
transferred to the computer’s hard disk.
